Principal's Message

Mr Forrest

Welcome Back

Well what a cold and frosty winter break it was.   Hopefully the weather starts to warm up, and at the same time keep raining at the right times for the farmers.

Welcome back to Term 3, week 2 with some big events starting this week  with Learning Conversations and the House Athletic Sports on Friday.   Keep on reading kids as the end of the Reading Olympics is not far away.    Let's all keep working together and ensure we have an awesome Term 3.   Remember to keep an eye on your school calendar and lookout for further school information via Facebook and COMPASS.

Celebrating 25 Years as a P-12 College

What a wonderful day of celebration we had on the last day of term 2.  The occasion commenced with the official opening of the new indigenous water tank mural, featuring Uncle Ron and Uncle Rick who performed 'Welcome to Country'. This was followed with story telling of 'Bungil the creator' the Wedge Tailed Eagle  and playing of the didgeridoo . We also unveiled the new paving monument featuring our school acknowledgement to country.  Artist, Tobie Cameron spoke about the mural and working with our students over the past few months to complete the impressive art work.  Tobie has also been contracted to use his artistic skills to produce a large feature artwork to adorn the KLC end wall overlooking the Wedderburn Community.  However we will keep the design under wraps until further notice, it does fit in with the Wedderburn bird theme and it is amazing!

The day included a grand celebration of 25 years since becoming a P-12 College.  There were many highlights including the unveiling of our SWPBS achievement wall and the new 25 year logo monument.  Special SWPBS awards were presented to Dean Lockhart, student Aria Dehon and SWPBS coordinator Kerry Hammond.  It was great to hear from our special guests, Martha Haylett MP Member for Ripon, DE Loddon Campaspe Area Director Anne Cunniff. Former School Council President John Murnane along with current School Council President Carolyn Stevenson cut the 25 year Anniversary cake. We were fortunate to have several past principals attend the celebrations.  All students and visitors enjoyed a catered morning tea and lunch supplied by the College Cafe manager Kylie Cunningham and friends.  Ex principal Mike Hanrahan gave a short speech about a special handcafted pottery plate that was orginally presented to him commemorating   Wedderburn High Schools 25 year Celebration.   The plate is currently on display in the school office.

Celebrating 160 Years of Education

On the 1st of July 2025 it will be 160 years to the day when a school officially opened in Wedderburn.  The 160 Years of Education will be celebrated the last week of Term 2, 2025 with a variety of activities across the week to embrace this monumental occasion.  One of the key features of the celebrations will be the launch of our hard cover, 200 page, coffee table recipe & history book.   We are now calling on families to submit their favourite recipes or Grandmas greatest hidden secrets to be considered for publication in this important book. Please understand that we are happy to take several recipes from families and community members, however it will not be possible for every recipe to be published. Not everyone will have a recipe published.  We have the rest of this term to submit recipes. Please use the format attached to submit your recipes, see below.

Building Update

The builders have been busy over the past month to ensure we have better access to the school.  The new landscaping, pathways and ramps next to the BER are magnificent. As you can see from the photos, the roof on the new science room has been started and the concreting outside the college café for a new deck area has also commenced.  The wheelchair ramp to the back oval is completed, however we cannot access it at the moment due to works on the KLC.

Just a reminder that from the start of Term 3, car parking will only be available from the gateway next to the Chapel Street portable buildings towards the netball courts, as there will be times when a large crane may be working on the KLC.  This also means that classes in the music room and the DISS building will have to be relocated for a while.  Thanks for everyone's cooperation with this so far.
