Year 1/2 Class News

Wow what an amazing turnout for our Grandparent’s day in Year 1/2! It was so lovely to meet all our special visitors & have a chat. We hope they all enjoyed their morning with their child/children & were able to have a hot cuppa & some morning tea after joining us for the activity. We thank each of them for making the children’s day special. They really did love having their grandparents visit us - definitely a highlight & a memorable experience for them.

In Year 1/2 we have been using some mentor texts to help introduce the students to persuasive writing and examining them to help us understand how to express our opinions and provide reasons. This week we have delved a little deeper and started to brainstorm our own reasons why we agree or disagree with certain ideas/topics. In maths students have been introduced to the foundational concepts of multiplication and division through practical activities. We have learnt that division is about sharing objects equally among groups; but sometimes there are remainders. We have also explored arranging objects in arrays (rows and columns) to help us understand the concept of grouping (multiplication). In Religion, we have been exploring different stories from the Old and New Testaments and how the Stories of God’s People within the Bible help document God’s relationship with God’s People. We have also grasped a better understanding of why the Bible is a sacred and special and that it is the Word of God.

Year 4 Emmanuel College Experience

On Tuesday 30th July, Grade 4s were invited to visit and experience High School at Emmanuel College (St. Paul's campus) for a day. We had a tour around the School including the Campus Chapel, the Hall, Art Classrooms, Science labs and we even bumped into some former Students! While in the Science labs, we did a fun Science experiment and then spent some time in the Art rooms admiring some High School students Art work. After Lunch, we played some Physical education games led by year 12 Emmanuel College students. Overall, Students had lots of fun and are that much more knowledgable about High School!

Year 3/4C STEM Incursion

This Term, we had a special visit from a STEM Team who taught us about different types of Engineering. Students were able to have a Class discussion about what they already know about how buildings and other structures are made. They were given a specific amount of (play) dollars to buy materials in order to create a structure that would withstand an Earthquake, Heavy rainfall and high wind gusts. Students had very interesting and insightful conversations about their structures deciding as a Team what would work best. Overall, the Students enjoyed the task. Well done to all!

Year 3/4 Indigenous Experience Excursion at Footscray Community Arts Centre

This Term, Grade 3/4s have been learning about Indigenous Australian Culture and life before contact. We visited the Footscray Community Arts Centre where we admired and discussed Indigenous Art work and Photographs before we got into our activities. Our first activity was a group Poetry task where Students created their own Poems using an existing piece of writing.  Students were able to orally present their poem to the rest of the Year level. During Lunch, we were able to enjoy the Art Centres park area and just spend time outdoors. After Lunch, our 2nd activity was the most popular as it was a hands-on modelling clay task. Students were asked to make an animal out of the clay and then build its habitat around it.

  BOOK WEEK          19th - 23rd August

We will be celebrating Book Week very soon.  Our costume dress up day will be on Thursday 22nd August this year.

The theme for 2024  is 'Reading is Magic'.  All members of our school community are invited to dress up as their favourite Book Character and bring the book along to show and share as well. The students will showcase their characters during the morning assembly in the courtyard. We will not be holding a formal parade in the hall this year as we have previously done.

For something different, the students will forward into their classrooms, present their character to their class and then listen to a story read by their teacher and then complete some activities.

School Assembly Awards

Congratulations to all students who received awards for working hard, achieving their goals or being respectful.
