Emotional Literacy & Help Seeking

This term, our Year 6 Inquiry unit will focus on developing emotional literacy and help-seeking skills, aligned with the Resilience, Rights and Respectful Relationships (RRRR) curriculum. Students will explore a range of emotions, from positive and negative to more intense and mixed feelings, and reflect on how emotions can change throughout different experiences – including our exciting Year 6 Camp!

Through guided discussions and activities, students will learn to identify and describe emotions, understand their triggers, and express them in healthy ways. We’ll also focus on building trust, recognising when we or others may need help, and rehearsing how to ask for and offer support in respectful and effective ways.

This unit encourages self-awareness, empathy, and resilience. It supports students in identifying trusted adults and services they can turn to for help, while normalising conversations around mental health and wellbeing.

We are mindful that some topics may be sensitive for students. A safe, supportive environment will be maintained at all times, with alternative quiet activities available as needed.

This term promises to be one of growth, reflection, and connection as we strengthen our emotional toolkit for life inside and outside the classroom.
