Reading I Writing I Speaking & Listening
This term in English, our Year 6 students will be diving deep into the novel Holes by Louis Sachar. As we explore themes such as justice, resilience, and family history, students will analyse character development, plot structure, and author’s use of language. Rich discussions and comprehension tasks will help students develop critical thinking and inference skills.
In addition to our novel study, students will focus on building their note-taking and research skills—essential tools for gathering and organising information effectively. These skills will support our Inquiry unit as students interview a family member about their cultural background or migration story. They will learn how to generate thoughtful interview questions, listen actively, and record information accurately.
Following their research and interviews, students will present their findings through written reports or multimedia presentations, practising how to summarise key ideas, use evidence, and communicate clearly to an audience.
This integrated approach to English not only strengthens literacy skills but also deepens students' understanding of identity, storytelling, and personal connections to history. We look forward to seeing our learners become confident researchers and powerful communicators.
