Last term each student was shared a data slide. which was created to celebrate their learning and set goals to help them to continue to grow. This data is also used to celebrate the learning across the school and help us to identify and target particular areas we can focus on. This year we had a lot to celebrate!
Our data from Prep to Yr 6 has shown positive growth in both Literacy and Numeracy. Over the past few years we have been focused on building consistency in our policies and procedures across the school. Staff has also engaged in learning to ensure all of our practises are based in current science of learning research.
This has led to the introduction of Initialit, MiniLit, Macqlit and Spelling Mastery in literacy and Daily reviews, Maths Fluency Bricks and shared planning continuums in Numeracy. These changes along with our focus on routines and structures has resulted in fantastic results across the school. When exploring data most often it will fall into what is known as a ‘bell curve’ with 25% Needing support, 50% achieving expected results and 25% exceeding, however as shown below in our whole school graphs St Joseph’s data is exceeding!
Congratulations to all of our students on their excellent work and a thank you to all of our staff for the amazing work they have done to support all of our students to grow and flourish.
This term we are celebrating Science Week and Book Week. We encourage families to get involved in our activities and celebrate these at home. Below are some reminders about the days.
The school theme for National Science Week in 2024 is Species Survival - More than just sustainability. The theme aims to highlight the importance of science and innovation in ensuring the survival and thriving of different species in an ever-changing world.
Students will be exploring the theme throughout the week and complete their focus on Friday with a special Science - Family Fun Friday. We encourage families to explore ways they can take part in Science week at home and to come along to our family fun Friday.
Book Day Dress Up - Friday August 23rd
Each year, across Australia, the Children's Book Council of Australia (CBCA) brings children and books together celebrating Children’s Book Week. Throughout the year, the CBCA works in partnership with authors, illustrators, publishers, booksellers and other organisations in the children’s book world to bring words, images and stories into the hearts and minds of children and adults.
Each year we celebrate Book day at St Joseph's where we encourage students to dress up as their favourite book characters and they take part in activities around the nominated books. This year our dress up day is Friday August 23rd and we cant wait to see all of the amazing costumes on the day!
Don't forget to keep practising learning over the holiday break to avoid loss of learning. For ideas go to your child's Home Learning page below. Please click on the link below to visit your child’s Home Leaning Page to stay up to date with their learning.
