Junior School

Junior Sub School Term 2 Report

As we reach the halfway point of the academic year, we would like to take a moment to celebrate the wonderful achievements of our Year 7 and 8 students. Over the past two terms, students have actively participated in a range of sporting events, excursions and day camps, showcasing their enthusiasm, teamwork, and school pride.

This week, we held special celebration assemblies to recognise students who have demonstrated our school values throughout the semester. We also acknowledged students who achieved 90% or higher attendance, a fantastic effort that highlights their dedication and commitment to learning.

Congratulations to all students for their hard work and involvement so far this year. We look forward to an exciting and productive second half of the year ahead!

Gold Diggers excursion to Ellis Cottage

The 7.1 and 7.5 Gold Diggers classes went on a walk to see local community historical icon Ellis Cottage. We were very lucky with the weather – it was a crispy but sunny day and only began to spit as we got back to school.

We walked a quick 15-minute walk up the road and met local historical society volunteers Jean and David. They were very generous with their time and immense knowledge about the development of Diamond Creek, Nillumbik area and the Ellis family, whose cottage we visited. Jean presented a really interesting speech which included audience questions and help to understand how the area built up, local gold mining and even brushes with bush rangers.

The cottage is decked out with original furnishings and trimmings, with lots of pictures and explanations of the family and their experiences in the cottage and farm life. The shed has been developed as a museum with an exhibition of local farm gadgets, original pictures, and maps.

Students were then able to roam around the property freely to find the answers in their work booklets and make their own discoveries about their local street names and even get an idea of some of their own family histories.

We had a fantastic day!
