From our Assistant Principals

Dear Students and Families,

To help protect and maintain our school facilities, Diamond Valley College will be implementing new toilet access procedures.

Toilet access will be designated as follows:

  • Year 7 & 8 students: B Block toilets
  • Year 9 & 10 students: L Block toilets
  • Year 11 & 12 students: C Block toilets

During class time, toilets will be closed during the first and last 15 minutes of each lesson. Students are also asked not to use toilets during class transitions between session 1 to 2 and 3 to 4 .

If a student needs to use the toilet during class time, they should use the closest available toilets to their classroom, to minimise time out of class and movement across the school.

Unfortunately, some students are not treating our facilities with respect and our toilets are being damaged, wasting money that could be better spent on resources for learning.  Please have a conversation at home about the importance of proper toilet use to support the majority of students doing the right thing. Any student found damaging the toilets will be asked to cover the cost of repairs and this could be a significant amount.

We appreciate everyone’s cooperation in using our facilities responsibly, helping to keep Diamond Valley College a safe and pleasant place for all.

Thank you for your support.

Curriculum Day – Tuesday 17th June

On Tuesday, 17th June, all staff were able to continue working collaboratively on our Annual Implementation Plan Goals.

This included a session led by our Learning Specialists providing an overview and analysis of the recent PAT data collected from all students in Years 7-12. Staff participated in an activity to deepen their understanding of the data and consider implications for teaching and learning.

The second session offered all teaching staff the opportunity to further investigate the differences between the Victorian Curriculum 1.0 and 2.0 and begin planning for its implementation in 2026. Meanwhile, our Learning Support team engaged in professional learning with team leaders focused on enhancing strategies to better support student learning.

Following lunch, the afternoon sessions focused on developing practices, and programs aimed at supporting students’ learning behaviours, growth, and wellbeing. This included activities to foster staff buy-in for our School-Wide Positive Behaviours Program and the Personal Development Program across the college.

Overall, it was a positive day that encouraged rich communication, collaborative planning, and professional learning, enabling us to continue improving our programs for students.

Attendance

As the end of the term concludes, our students will be ready for a well-deserved break, from what has been a very busy term. Over the break before returning next term, it’s important to reflect on students learning and their engagement in school. Families will have access to students reports and CATs on compass. Please spend time talking to your child about their work and their feedback.

This year on the report student’s attendance in each subject will be visible. Students should be aiming for 90% plus in each subject, especially for Years 11 & 12 to meet VCE requirements. Students with an attendance rate below 90% are approaching chronic absenteeism which is of concern.  It’s important to consider your child’s attendance at school and the impact it has on learning.

When a student misses school, even just a day here and there, it adds up quickly. One day of absence every fortnight equals four weeks missed each year. Across a student’s schooling, this can amount to a full year of lost learning. Research tells us that these absences, especially when unexplained or unauthorised, can affect not just academic outcomes, but also friendships, confidence, as well as health and employment opportunities later in life.

Next term students will have the opportunity to reflect on their report data, set learning goals and review their attendance as they commence semester 2 subjects.

At Diamond Vallery College, we prioritise regular school attendance. We will work with families to ensure students are in class with their peers and teachers and enjoying all the benefits that it brings. Attending school every day means experiencing what counts – the learning, friendship, fun and opportunities that can shape your child’s future.

If you have any concerns regarding your student’s attendance rate for this semester, please contact your child’s Year Level leader so appropriate supports can be put in place.
