Arts - Curriculum

Year 10 Visual Art students participated in a practical workshop with artist Dylan Jones (Old Boy, 2009). After graduating Year 12, Dylan completed a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Queensland College of Art in 2012, followed by a Graduate Diploma of Education and he has forged a successful career as a practicing artist. His work reflects the beauty found in scenes from the “everyday”, with rich bursts of colour and impasto application of paint. Dylan shared his knowledge and expertise in painting with the students and facilitated a workshop where they began a painting based on imagery from the natural and urban environments. We look forward to seeing the finished pieces in the coming weeks.

We congratulate artwork of the month winner, Tobey Ferrero in Year 12 for his glazed cultural ceramic vessel produced as part of his Certificate III in Visual Art course. Congratulations Tobey.

Senior FTV students attended a presentation in the Draney Theatre by representatives from the New York Film Academy, a school of film and acting with locations in New York, Los Angeles, Miami and the Gold Coast.

Students were able to find out about industry-focused training available through a range of tertiary courses in various disciplines such as filmmaking, producing, screenwriting, cinematography, editing, documentary filmmaking, acting, 3D animation and visual effects.

Senior Drama and Drama in Practice students attended a live performance of Shake and Stir’s critically acclaimed adaptation of Mary Shelley’s classic, “Frankenstein”. The Years 11 and 12 students were treated to two hours of cutting-edge production elements and special effects, thrilling theatrics and powerful storytelling in the 21st century production of a well-known classic. Experiencing a live performance such as “Frankenstein”, has provided our students with invaluable perspectives which extend from performance techniques through to set and stage design and the technical and production processes involved in live theatre.
