Changes To Student Reporting in Mathematics
This year, some changes to student reporting for Mathematics have been introduced in Victorian Catholic schools. The Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority (VCAA) recently published its revised Mathematics curriculum (Mathematics Version 2.0).
All Victorian schools will start using Mathematics Version 2.0 in 2024 or 2025. At School of The Good Shepherd we are using the revised Mathematics curriculum for student reporting from Semester 1, 2025.
On your child’s previous report, the teacher reported against the three strands of the achievement standard for Mathematics (Number and Algebra, Measurement and Geometry, and Statistics and Probability). Under the Mathematics Version 2.0 curriculum, your child’s teacher will report against the achievement standard as a whole, providing a single, aggregated score.
As the achievement standards reported on have changed, the first time you receive a report under the Mathematics Version 2.0 curriculum, it will only show achievement and not progress. For all reports after this, progress will be shown against the single achievement standard.
The VCAA made these changes to help teachers plan their teaching and learning programs in Mathematics, giving them more flexibility to support students to link ideas within Mathematics and also with other curriculum areas.

Alessia in Year 6 to Represent Victoria at National Championships
We are incredibly proud to share some exciting news with our School of the Good Shepherd community!
Alessia has been selected to represent Victoria in the Kata Division at the National Karate Championships!
After demonstrating outstanding skill, dedication, and discipline in her training and competitions, Alessia has earned a well-deserved spot on the state team. She will travel to Adelaide in July to compete against the best young athletes from around the country.
This is a remarkable achievement, and we are thrilled to see Alessia’s hard work and passion for martial arts being recognised at such a high level. We wish her the very best as she prepares for Nationals — your school community is behind you all the way Alessia!
Go Team Vic and go Alessia!
Sustainability News
Our garden club continues to be a busy spot to be on Mondays and Wednesdays with lots of winter planting and mulching happening. Look how great it is looking!
Last weekend was the Winter Solstice, marking the shortest day and longest night of the year; so as our days slowly become longer please find below a couple of lantern ideas that our friends at CERES have shared for you to make at home.
If your fruit bowl has a few mandarins rolling around, you’re already halfway to making these cute little mandarin candles. Slice them, scoop them out, and use the central stem as a natural wick. A splash of oil and a match is all it takes to turn them into tiny glowing lanterns with a sweet citrus scent. If you would like to do this fun activity please click below for the in depth instructions and a how to video.

Another beautiful lantern idea you can make at home is creating a butterfly that can be lit up by reusing a 2L plastic milk bottle and a small candle. Please click below for the full instructions and a butterfly template.
Please be sure that any children who complete these crafts are done so with the supervision of an adult.
I would love to share any photos of the mandarin candle, butterfly lantern or if you are out doing some of your own gardening in the newsletter or on our Sustainability Board which is located on the STEM Window - be sure to check it out if you are walking past!
