Photo Catch Up:

Our last Whānau Time for Term Two focused on 'Friendship'. We closed with three friends performing their dance moves to "Gnarly", a lunchtime favourite at our Dance Stage.

Our GLEE crew are proud of their performance and achievements as 2025 Winners. This includes our Lighting Maestro, Jack, pictured above.

A number of our children are members of the Te Pai Tennis Club, led by Kay and Zee Luv. Kay is a member of our support staff, and her children Asia and Europe attend WHS. They recently won an age-grade Auckland Club Championship - awesome efforts, team.

Waitakere Schools Chess Championships:

Report from Stef Tipi:

At the recent West Auckland Chess Competition, Western Heights made us all proud. The competition took place on the last Friday of Term 2. We had two teams representing Western Heights: Joshua Wang, Dev Chawla, Zac Auva'a, Shevan Dasanyak, Steven Somu Victor, Kelly Tian, Davi Ruiz, Mikayla Stevens, Roy Lee, Jaden Liang, and Flynn Collins.

Out of 20 teams, our talented players clinched 5th and 8th place! ACG gained 1st, 2nd and 4th place, Scott Point School gained 3rd place, and then it was us!

Our teams were not only competitive but also showed fantastic sportsmanship throughout. We're absolutely thrilled with these results! Ka pai, Western Heights!

Don't forget, our Chess for Fun Club will keep the good times rolling on Thursdays at lunchtime! 😊

Huge thanks to Stef Tipi for all her work training our teams at lunchtimes.

Sad Farewell:

At Western Heights, we work hard to build the strongest possible family relationships between staff, students and their families. So saying farewell to children and families we deeply care for is always hard.

At the end of last term, we said farewell to Archie and his family. Older brother Cyrus graduated last year and has been greatly missed this year. Now we lose Archie as well.

Here is a message from Archie's mum:

Hi Mr Maindonald,

It is really hard for us to write this letter to say that Archie is going to leave Western Heights. It has been such a great experience, and so many memories were created in Western Heights.

Thank you for all your hard work and support for making Western Heights a great school. It's hard to say goodbye. We have loved to see you at the school gate to greet every student and their whanau. We loved to see you wear your duty jacket to guide the traffic at the beginning and the end of the day.

We love your motorbike. We love your speeches at the whanau time. You taught our kids a lot of things that they cannot learn from a book.

You always show kindness to the kids and their families. I am sure in the future they will come back as successful adults to join in reunion celebrations.

Please send my regards to all Western Heights School teachers for their skills, compassion and knowledge. I wish that Western Heights will keep doing the great work. Thank you again.

See you around.

Regards,

Belle
