Mathematics @ ENPS
The Mathematical Association of Victoria Conference
In Week Nine, Macalie Vlah, Lana Harris and myself had the pleasure of being invited to present at The Mathematical Association of Victoria’s Annual Conference. The focus of the session was to celebrate our mathematical teaching journey and how challenging tasks are used to teach mathematical concepts in Foundation.
The Educators in the session learnt about;
The changes made to our whole school mathematics teaching approach (Launch-Explore-Summarise), our Big Ideas in number and the problem solving strategies used in every classroom
Focus on scaffolding students to approach challenge when thinking mathematically
The structure of a maths lesson in Foundation
Teaching a variety of problem solving strategies to Foundation students
The importance of teachers anticipating a mathematics lesson
Along with Claire Eadington and Alice McKenzie, we then spent two days attending presentations conducted by Mathematical experts. The presentations left us inspired for continued improvements to our mathematics teaching and how to best implement the revised Mathematics 2.0 curriculum that will be embedded across the school in 2025.
