FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Term 1 - Week 2
Dear Parents, Carers and Friends,
Firstly, I would like to say a huge thank you for the warm welcome I have received over the last week as I have commenced my time as Principal of St Nicholas Primary School.
In my first address to the staff last Thursday, at the beginning of our two professional learning days, I used the word privilege to describe the feeling of being given the opportunity to start my teaching career at St. Nicholas. When walking back into St. Nicholas 18 years later with the opportunity to be the Principal, I thought of the exact same word, privilege.
It is a privilege to work with such caring, capable and professional staff. It is a privilege to welcome our students into the school each day and support them to achieve their learning, faith and wellbeing outcomes. And it is a privilege that you as parents and carers entrust the education of your children to us at St Nicholas School and make it the special place it is.
I know I can only be successful in the role of Principal with the support of others. This starts at home, with the support of my wife Courtney, and children Lewis and Mia, who also attend St Nicholas, and extends to all the staff who make St Nicholas such a special place to teach and learn. As I settle into my role, my first priority is to listen, learn, and build on the wonderful traditions and successes that already define St Nicholas School. The school has achieved some impressive results in student growth over the past few years that show we are helping to develop literate and numerate students who have a hope filled future.
I know I have big shoes to fill following on from Mr Clery. Students are already reminding me of many of the things I need to continue to do, such as welcome everyone at the gate in the morning, spend lots of time in the classrooms and come up with a few more nicknames. We have already established however that my handball skills are fairly rusty!
I am looking forward to opportunities over the coming weeks to meet with members of our school community, and especially looking forward to welcoming our new Kindergarten students and their families on Monday next week.
Some upcoming key dates are:
Opening School Mass - Friday 7th Feb at 9:30am - School Undercroft - All welcome
Please ensure all students are wearing their full summer uniform.
Kindergarten students commence - Monday 10th Feb
Parent Information Night - Wednesday 12 Feb 6:00pm
School Swimming Carnival - Friday 14th Feb at Tamworth City Pool
Thank you again for the warm welcome back to St. Nicholas.
Have a great week.
Peter Flynn
Principal
