Congratulations to Glen Innes Schools CAPA Students for Schools Spectacular Success
Congratulations to three of Glen Innes Schools' CAPA students who have recently been busy auditioning for Schools Spectacular in various categories. Tahlia Husband, Payten Ward, and Maggie Duddy have all successfully progressed through to the live auditions as featured artists in Vocals and Ballet.
Tahlia and Payten were selected from over 500 applicants to advance to the next level of auditions held at NECOM in Armidale. Only 102 students were chosen to participate in the workshops and activities on the day—a fantastic achievement for both.
Another Glen Innes High School student, Maggie Duddy, was selected for the live auditions in Ballet. She attended the Tanya Pearson Dance Academy, performing for members of the Australian Youth Ballet and the NSW Arts Unit. Maggie was one of only 35 dancers selected to audition from more than 200 applicants.
A heartfelt congratulations to these three talented students. Glen Innes High School is extremely proud of your achievements.
Additionally, these girls proudly represented Glen Innes High School and the community at the recent ANZAC Day commemorations, delivering an amazing rendition of “Advance Australia Fair” at the largest ceremony in recent years.
Well done, girls!
HSIE News
As part of their studies of Australians at War this term, year 9 History have been exploring the nature of warfare during the Gallipoli campaign as well as the conditions the Anzacs found themselves in across the battlefronts of the Great War.
Year 9 have also investigated the rations the typical digger might have ‘enjoyed’ in the trenches of the Gallipoli campaign. History students have learnt about how rare and precious fruit and vegetables became to front line Australians soldiers and the innovative and creative methods the Anzacs used to make their bully beef and biscuits a little more appetising.
Living History
'Shane Blackman from World War One Living History visited Glen Innes High in Week 2. Shane's visit is an immersive 2 hour presentation for Year 9 students who are currently studying 'Australians at War - WW1 & WW2'.
The highlight of Shane's presentation is the wide range of trinkets and artifacts from WW1, many of which were used by soldiers on the Western Front.
This is a fantastic opportunity to bring this topic to life and to better visualise what life on the Western Front would have been like for the men who fought there.'
Ag News
Glen Innes High School recently made a remarkable impression at the Northern Schools Prime Lamb competition held in Armidale. Represented by 23 enthusiastic students and 10 Poll Dorset lambs, the school showcased both skill and passion across a dynamic series of events.
Students immersed themselves in interactive workshops that covered a broad spectrum of agricultural skills and knowledge. Highlights included:
Exploring electronic identification systems for livestock
Developing basic sheep handling skills
Learning the art of livestock photography
Participating in a highly popular cooking demonstration, which proved to be the event’s absolute highlight
The competition also featured junior judging activities where Glen Innes students performed exceptionally:
Liam Wilkins secured an impressive 4th place in Stage 4 junior judging
Skye McIndoe triumphed as the champion, earning well-deserved recognition for her excellent judging skills
We also entered a pen of three lambs in each weight division—light, middle, and heavyweights—along with an individual led lamb beautifully presented by Naishia Grob.
Placings in the hoof section included:
Led lamb: 4th place (individual)
Light weight pen: 5th place
Middle weight pen: 3rd place
The competition’s crowning glory came from the hook section, where the heavyweight pen was named the Champion Carcass—an outstanding achievement.
This remarkable success is a proud testament to Glen Innes High School’s dedicated Agriculture program, highlighting the hard work, skill, and commitment of both students and staff. Congratulations to all involved for a stellar performance at the Northern Schools Prime Lamb competition!
