Principal's Report

It has been wonderful to see the much-needed rain across our region this week. While the wet weather can bring a few challenges, it has certainly been welcomed by many in our community.
We are incredibly excited by the strong interest already shown in our new High Potential and Gifted Education (HPGE) class for incoming Year 7 students in 2026. Applications are continuing to come in, and it has been fantastic to see so many families eager to be part of this exciting opportunity at Glen Innes High School. A reminder to all incoming Year 6 families that Expressions of Interest (EOI) applications close on 12 June 2026.
Our teachers involved in the HPGE class have been enthusiastically participating in professional learning and discussions around gifted education and innovative teaching practices. Staff have already begun brainstorming exciting ideas, experiences, and opportunities that will make this class engaging, challenging, and rewarding for students. Importantly, these approaches to teaching and learning will not only benefit students in the HPGE class but will also continue to influence learning across the whole school as we strengthen high-quality teaching practices for all students.
As part of the development of our HPGE program, we are also excited to continue creating a wide range of engaging and innovative opportunities for students at Glen Innes High School. One exciting upcoming event is the Great Glen Innes High LEGO Challenge, where Year 5 and 6 students will work alongside and compete against high school students in a range of creative problem-solving and engineering challenges. This event will encourage teamwork, critical thinking, innovation, and hands-on learning in a fun and engaging environment.
We are incredibly excited about the possibilities this event brings, and with the strong interest already shown, this could become an even bigger community event in the future. Watch this space!
We would also like to remind families that all enrolments for students attending Glen Innes High School in 2026 need to be completed as soon as possible. We are still waiting on several families to finalise their online enrolment forms. Completing enrolments is extremely important to ensure students and families do not miss important transition events, orientation activities, and support opportunities to help prepare students for a successful start to high school.
Families can complete enrolments here: https://gleninnes-h.schools.nsw.gov.au/about-us/enrol
If you require assistance with the enrolment process, please reach out to the school and we will be happy to help.
There are also many exciting events coming up this term. Please save the date for our NAIDOC Week celebrations. This year’s NAIDOC Week theme, “50 Years of Deadly,”
celebrates five decades of recognising, honouring, and amplifying Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander voices, cultures, achievements, and leadership. The theme acknowledges the strength, resilience, and pride of First Nations peoples and reminds us of the importance of continuing to learn from and celebrate the oldest continuing cultures in the world.
Our annual Flag Raising Ceremony will be held on Monday 29 June at 10:55am, and we encourage all members of the community to join us in celebrating this important occasion.
On 16 June, we will also be holding our Subject Selection Evening for students moving from Year 8 into Year 9, and Year 10 into Year 11. This is an important opportunity for students and families to make informed decisions about future subject choices. Families are encouraged to attend and speak with our experienced teachers and Head Teachers about the best pathways and subject selections for their child.
Our students and staff continue to be incredibly busy across all areas of school life. From drama workshops, engineering and design projects in TAS, sporting success in touch football and netball, exciting chemistry and physics experiments, through to creating delicious feasts in Hospitality classes — there is always something happening at Glen Innes High School.
To keep up to date with our rich range of opportunities, activities, and achievements, we encourage families to join our Facebook page and see why Glen Innes High School continues to be a fantastic choice for your child’s education.
