Year 5
Year Five Getting Involved
Year five have had a very busy term. They hare participating in weekly AFL lessons with Ben, an experienced AFL coach, every Thursday. These workshops are conducted to develop skills needed to play AFL. They have had a ball developing their skills on how to hit and kick the football to each other through lots of mini games. This is allowing them to further develop team building skills with their peers, while also improving their physical fitness through fun games in Physical Education.
A famous AFL legend Isaac Heeney, a current member of the Sydney Swans, also came to visit our school to share his experiences in the sport. He had the opportunity to talk about the game and students asked many interesting questions. Some even walked away with signed posters of the Sydney Swans team by Isaac Heeney.
Some year five students also took the opportunity to experience a live AFL game to watch the Sydney Swans play against Richmond on the 30th of May. They even got to see Isaac Heeney play in an AFL match in person. Students and parents alike were treated to a look around the stadium before the game and, the boys and girls loved their goodie bags they received with Sydney Swans Memorabilia. Students were excited to wear their caps during the School Sports day later that week.
A wellbeing Incursion was also attended by year five students and other grades. They got to learn about online safety, bullying and how to become resilient and deal with these issues. It is a problem many students face today in a world surrounded and influenced by social media. This drama production presented by professionals had the students enthralled as they were entertained and made to think about these issues from many points of view. The production was enlightening for all and I'm sure that everyone walked away reflecting about the performance they attended.
Year 6
On Thursday the 4th June, our school celebrated Sports Day with great enthusiasm. Our House captains and vice captains took the lead in hosting the events, supported by our teachers. The day began with activities for the younger students and progressed to competitions involving our senior students.
After several extended sessions of fun and friendly competition, all students returned to their classrooms feeling happy and satisfied. The sports captains and vice captains saw this event as a wonderful opportunity to encourage a love of sport across the school community.
Overall, Sports Day was an exciting and enjoyable event filled with teamwork, activity, and fun. We look forward to hosting another Sports Day in the near future!
