Principal's Message

Mrs Kylie Bryant - Principal

On your marks, get set, GO! As this weeks newsletter hits your inbox we are all currently at Barton Park enjoying a day where all students can demonstrate their sporting talents and have a go. The Athletics Carnival is one of my favourite days of the year and I look forward to recapping the day with you in the next newsletter.

I hope everyone enjoyed the long weekend and had a chance to relax and spend quality time with family and friends. It has been a fantastic fortnight at Roselea, filled with engaging activities, celebrations, and opportunities for our students to shine. Across the fortnight there was a number of key activities and events, from school photos to special assemblies. We recognised Reconciliation Week, a meaningful time for our whole school community. Through a special assembly and a range of classroom activities, our students explored the importance of respect, understanding, and unity as we acknowledge Australia's shared histories and cultures. We are committed to fostering a school culture where every voice is valued.

On 27 May we were fortunate to be joined by former Roselea students Ronika and Ian, who now attend Carlingford HS, to read Luna Roo for the National Simultaneous Storytime event. This event brought a buzz of excitement as students shared in this activity at the same time as others across the country. Organised annually by the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA), the nationwide event encourages early literacy by sharing an Australian children's book simultaneously in homes, schools, and libraries. The 2026 story featured a high-energy underdog tale about a rookie kangaroo captain who learns to trust in her teammates and overcome her nerves on the football pitch.

Walk Safely to School Day saw many of our students participating in the Walking Bus. This initiative not only encourages physical activity but also promotes road safety and community connection. Thank you to our parent volunteers who helped make this event safe and fun.

Our SRC organised a fun PJ Day, providing a relaxed and fun day. So many stories of students being able to just roll out of bed and come to school without the hassle of getting dressed. Oodies were clearly the PJ of choice, it was lucky it was such a cold morning! I thank the SRC for organising the event, everyone, students and teachers alike loved it. In 2027 perhaps we need to convince parents to join us in wearing PJs too!

An exciting moment this fortnight was our Year 6 debating team’s match against Cherrybrook Public School. Our students demonstrated confidence, critical thinking, and excellent teamwork, making us proud with their thoughtful arguments and respectful engagement. The topic was 'Screens should not be used for education at school' with Roselea taking the negative.  Congratulations to the team on their win.

Our School Captains represented Roselea at The Hills Network Student Voice meeting. This gave them a valuable opportunity to share ideas, listen to peers from other schools, and contribute to shaping education in the wider community. It is great to see their confidence growing in this space and I am grateful for the valuable contributions they make. At a school level, Mr Love and I have been meeting regularly with our student leadership team. We discuss current student concerns, gain feedback on key programs and initiatives that we are running and ask for new ideas we can consider implementing. Hearing what is important to the student body and what they believe will add to the Roselea school community, forms a vital part in shaping our school goals for the future.
