This semester, Year 10 Outdoor Construction students designed and constructed a range of outdoor furniture projects while developing practical woodworking and design skills.
Throughout the course, students explored stages of the design process including research, planning, modifying existing designs, production planning, and evaluation. They also developed an understanding of materials suitable for external environments and the importance of safe workshop practices.
Students applied a variety of construction techniques using both hand tools and machines, including drills, drop saws, jigsaws, and impact drivers. A strong focus was placed on accurate measuring, marking out, assembling, finishing, and following safe operating procedures in the workshop
The completed projects showcased creativity, craftsmanship, and problem solving skills. Examples of student work included outdoor stools, benches, and timber outdoor chairs designed for durability and functionality in outdoor settings. Students demonstrated quality construction methods, attention to detail, and effective use of finishes suitable for external use.
The subject allowed students to build confidence in workshop environments while developing practical skills in design, construction, and project management.
