Welcome Back

A warm welcome back for Term 2. I hope that everyone was able to spend the holiday period resting, relaxing and spending time with friends and family. I was lucky enough to spend my holidays with my daughters, Penelope and Matilda, visiting the zoo, the local aquatic centres and a trip to Sydney to see the grandparents and cousins. A highlight of my break was seeing Penelope up and riding her bike without training wheels up and down our street.  She is now extremely excited to be able to ride her bike to Kinder.

We have a very busy term in front of us. Starting with a Curriculum Day on Monday 28 April. Students are not required at school on this day. Our wonderful teachers will utilise the day for further planning curriculum and learning experiences for Term 2.

Our School Wide Positive Behaviour Support (SWPBS) focus for Term 2 is the SPS value of Responsibility. Students will participate in explicit lessons on how they can demonstrate responsibility for themselves, their learning, words and actions in different settings across the school. I encourage you to have conversations with your child/ren about how they demonstrate responsibility at school, home and in the community. Throughout Term 2 we will continue our positive reinforcement of expected behaviours. Students will receive a token when showing our values or Respect, Responsibility and Resilience. More information will be communicated in the coming weeks on our whole school reward process for Term 2. I am sure after the hit of the ice cream stall at the end of last term, our students will be keen to give their best always in showing our school values every day.

Enrolments

Prep 2026 enrolments are now open. If you or someone you know has children starting school next year and you are wanting to enrol with us, please visit https://students.educationapps.vic.gov.au/s/ to create an account and complete the online application form by Friday 25 July 2025.

For more information about enrolling your child into a Victorian government primary school, visit Enrolling in Foundation (Prep).

Grade 6 to 7 transition information packs for parents went home via Compass on Tuesday. A completed application form must be returned for all students. This includes students that are attending Independent and Catholic schools. If you require a hard copy of this information, please contact the office. If you require further information or would like clarification regarding the process, please contact Kate Nancarrow.

Planning for 2026 is already underway, if you already know that your child will not be attending Solway Primary School next year, can you please let the office know.

Uniform Shop

Last month the school council made the decision to outsource the school’s uniform shop. We are pleased to be working with Spartan School World as our uniform supplier from May 19, 2025. To assist the transition, our school-based uniform shop will cease taking orders on May 2. Spartan will offer both retail store and online ordering of our uniform from May 19. More information will be shared early this term on how families will be able to access uniforms through Spartan.

Solway Story Time

Our first session is on Thursday May 1 at 9:30am. This is a wonderful opportunity for young children to enjoy stories and interactive activities while becoming familiar with the school environment. It’s also a great chance for parents to connect with our friendly staff and learn how we support a smooth transition to primary school. Register here.

Thank you for your continued support and lets all strive to be “our best always”.
