It has been a great start to Term 2 at CNPS. All students from Years 3 to 6 have been engaged in training for both the shotput and discuss, during the first three weeks.  As the term progresses, students will practice and refine the correct technique for the long jump, triple jump, high jump and hurdles. All students will train for the 100m, 200m, 800m, and 4x100m relay in preparation for the school athletics carnival occurring early Term 3.

Next Monday, May 20, selected students from Years 3 to 6 will represent CNPS at District Cross Country, which will be held at Norton's Park, Wantirna South.

All students from Years 5 and 6 have began training for Winter Gala which will take place on Friday, July 20. Students will be competing in Soccer, Netball and Volleyball.

In the first three weeks of Term 2, students from Foundation to Year 2 have been developing their skills in catching, kicking, running, vertical jumping, leaping, dodging, and overhand throwing. Each week, one of these Fundamental Motor skills will be the focus of the lesson. Students will participate in partner, small group and simple team games.

Performing Arts

Today, students participating in the Victorian State School Spectacular (VSSS) attended rehearsals at Oakleigh South Primary School. There, they danced with students from four other schools and received instruction from dance teachers associated with the VSSS.

The students worked hard to learn and remember the dances. Kathie and I were once again impressed and proud of their excellent behavior and commitment. The next rehearsal at Oakleigh South Primary School is scheduled for June.

Visual Art News

Term 2 is off to a flying start in the Art Room! Students from Foundation to Year 6 have been busy exploring a variety of materials and techniques while creating special artworks — including some heartfelt Mother’s Day gifts.

Foundation:

Our youngest artists have been learning about texture by making beautiful clay necklaces. They used the soles of their shoes to press unique textures into clay pendants. After the pieces were fired in the kiln, students painted their pendants and threaded colourful beads to create their finished necklaces.

Years 1 & 2:

Inspired by the vibrant work of illustrator Eric Carle, students have been exploring collage techniques. They painted and textured their own paper using brushes, sponges and combs, and then used it to create beautiful flower collages as gifts for Mother’s Day.

Years 3 & 4:

Students have been developing their clay modelling skills by learning how to make pinch pots. Taking inspiration from the bold patterns of Yayoi Kusama, they transformed their pots into whimsical pumpkins, which were then kiln-fired and painted with Kusama’s signature dots, lines and repeating patterns.

Years 5 & 6:

Our senior students have begun an exciting new sewing unit, where they are designing and creating their own felt soft toys, or "softies". They are currently in the planning and decorating stages — stay tuned for our next newsletter to see their stitched creations come to life!
