Welcome to Term 2! Our Foundation students have settled beautifully into their learning routines, and with growing confidence, we are now ready to dive deeper into exciting new concepts.
In Literacy, we have explored the letters O, P, J, C, and K, focusing on their sounds, correct letter formation, and identifying words that begin with these sounds. One of the most exciting milestones is that we’ve started blending CVC words using the letters we've learned so far—an important step towards early reading! To support this, we’ve also introduced our Golden Magic Words to help build sight word recognition.
In Numeracy, students have begun working with double-digit numbers, focusing on numbers from 1 to 10. We’ve been counting forwards and backwards, practicing numeral writing, and representing numbers in different ways, such as with objects, drawings, and number lines. We've also started exploring number bonds to 10, helping students understand how numbers can be combined and broken apart.
Another exciting development this term is learning about the times of day and days of the week. This helps students make sense of their daily routine and gives them a stronger understanding of how time works in their everyday lives.
We recently had our Sustainability Incursion, and our Foundation students learned so much about caring for the environment! They discovered how to sort waste correctly, what goes in each bin, and why it’s important to reduce, reuse, and recycle. It was a hands-on and meaningful experience that encouraged students to make thoughtful choices about their rubbish.
