Week 3 in 1/2DVG

A full week with very little disruptions. Amazing!

Reading: Students have been practising the 'Here' strategy, which involves finding the answer right there in the book.

Writing: The students have chosen an animal or bird to research and have been collecting information about its appearance, habitat, diet, and interesting facts. They have been practising how to scan for the information.

Maths: Addition has been the focus for this week, and the students have started completing vertical addition sums and how to solve addition word problems. They have loved the 'Addition to 12 Dice game' as a warm-up activity.

Inquiry: For Science this semester, we are looking at all things relating to weather. This week, the students have been discussing the weird and wonderful ways that people can predict the weather. Examples included seeing lots of ants may mean rain is on its way, the colour of the sky, etc. Students also looked at the Indigenous calendar in different communities.

Wellbeing: This week, we had a great discussion about what a friend is and is not. We went further by thinking about how people like to play in different ways. For example, some children like to play with only one other person all the time, but other children like to play in big groups. All types of play can have pros and cons.

Reminders:

  • It is Education week next week. The school is having an Open Morning for prospective parents on Wednesday 14th May, 9.30am - 11.00am. We will have a special Education Week assembly starting at 2.30pm to present our Education Week awards to students.
  • The Reading Journals are checked every Friday. The goal is to read and fill out their journal 4-5 times per week. Parents are welcome to fill out the certificates as their child achieves each milestone which will be viewed by the classroom teachers on a Friday.
  • As the weather cools, please ensure that your child wears the appropriate uniform and that it is labeled. Those jumpers do like to go on adventures at times....

Have a great weekend!
