Teaching and Learning - Simone Roche

Dear Parents and Caregivers,

As we finish Week 5 of the term, our focus turns toward the upcoming exam block, with all year level exam schedules now accessible on the Academics Tile on MyMTA. This is a key time in the academic calendar, providing students with the opportunity to demonstrate their learning, consolidate their knowledge, and build confidence in their assessment capabilities.

To support your child during this period, we encourage families to begin preparing now by helping students develop a clear plan for study. We recommend students and families access this early to map out upcoming commitments and create a structured revision timetable.

We also ask all students and parents to take the time to review the Exam Block Protocols, which are outlined on each exam schedule. These protocols are designed to ensure the smooth running of the exam period and to support fairness, focus, and responsibility across all year levels. Details surrounding missed assessment can be viewed in the College’s Missed Examination Policy and Procedures document (available on the MyMTA Policy and Procedures Tile).

In addition to the exam schedules, a full copy of the Assessment Calendar for each year level is also accessible via the Academic Tile. This calendar provides a comprehensive overview of all assessment dates and is a useful tool for planning and preparation.

Alongside academic readiness, we know that overall wellbeing plays a critical role in student performance. In the lead-up to exams, please encourage your child to:

  • Maintain healthy sleep habits – A consistent sleep schedule, with at least 8 hours of sleep per night, supports memory, focus, and emotional regulation.
  • Fuel their body and brain – A balanced diet, rich in whole foods, fresh fruit, and vegetables, provides the energy and nutrients needed to think clearly and stay motivated.
  • Move daily – Regular physical activity, whether it’s a walk, a team sport, or a gym session, helps to manage stress and boost concentration.

It’s normal for students to feel a mix of emotions as exams approach, and your encouragement and partnership during this time are incredibly valuable. We will continue to support students through structured revision opportunities in class, academic mentoring conversations, junior study programs, and wellbeing check-ins.

If you have any questions about the exam schedule, exam protocols, or how to support your child in the coming weeks, please don’t hesitate to reach out to your child’s Homeroom Mentor Teacher, Head of House, or me: rochs@staff.mta.qld.edu.au

Thank you for working with us to support student success – both academically and personally.

Warm regards,
