PROJECT COMPASSION LAUNCH
By Theertha & Jenna
On Tuesday the 4th of March, the Social Justice Team (Jenna, Theertha, Molly, Ivy, Ruby & Coby) went to Mary MacKillop Regional College to see the launch of Project Compassion by Caritas Australia.
When we got to Mary MacKillop we were greeted by two students from the college. Then we went inside the Chapel. A member from Caritas Australia came to the launch and explained what Project Compassion is and why it is so important. We were so intrigued by the way she talked about the project. The money collected through the program is going towards countries and families around the world that aren’t able to make enough money to look after their families. They do this through developing employment opportunities and giving aid.
The motto this year is: “Unite Against Poverty - This Lent!”
After hearing her talk about the project we were inspired to do some fundraising and give our best to make this project successful.
Next Bishop Greg led a liturgy where Ivy received a special on behalf of St Laurence O’Toole.
After that we had some light refreshments which were pancakes!! We took some photos, and some of us were interviewed.
Overall we had an amazing time and got to see the importance of Caritas Australia.
MINI VINNIES
Mini Vinnies empowers primary school students to become advocates within their school and local community by putting their values into action. Teachers and students meet regularly to learn about social justice issues, develop leadership skills and engage with the wider Vinnies community. Our Social Justice Team will be running a Minnie Vinnies Club every second Wednesday in Room C at lunch time.
