KINDERGARTEN KOALAS News

PAX Vision

Our PAX vision for our classroom and shared outdoor spaces promotes co-regulation which means everybody is working together.  It reduces conflict and negative emotions. The PAX Vision is used throughout each day in a creative and nurturing environment.  The teachers and students collaborated to show what we would like to see, hear, feel and do in our class - what do we want to see more of and what do we want to see less of. The PAX vision is used throughout the day in all activities to remind children of just how we are going to operate in the classroom and playground.

Mathematics

When you’re playing a game with dice, do you count the dots to know what number you’ve rolled?  It’s quite likely that you don’t have to, but instead, you’re able to recognise the number instantly. This ability is called subitising!

Subitising is the ability to look at a number and know exactly what it is without having to count.  Subitising is important in the early years of mathematical development. Kindergarten are going to become very good at subitising this year!

We are all special

When we first started school this term, we discussed all the ways we are special.  We talked about our families and how they are all different and also where we lived.  Everyone in our class loved using their whiteboards to draw pictures of their homes.

Fine Motor Friday

On Friday after recess we have learning time called Fine Motor Friday. This session incorporates Maths and different activities where the children develop their fine motor skills. These skills are necessary for many aspects of self-care for children, for example: putting on shoes, feeding themselves, cleaning their own teeth. Fine motor skills are also critical for the development of emergent writing.

Have a great week!
