Netball

It was a perfect Saturday morning for netball with beautiful sunshine, little wind,

cheering supporters and eager participants.

Our Year 7/8 Maverick girls played a really strong game of netball, and it was a nice feeling for them all to come away with another win, especially after some

great displays of teamwork and strong defence.  They were challenged at times

by Monivae, but full court pressure, and then converting turnovers into goals,

allowed them to pull away in the second half, with the final score being 13-9.

The Firebirds, who had many players missing this week, struggled a bit against a slick Monivae team. There were some good passages of play, and the focus was on trying to meet the ball and stick tight in defence. Thank you enormously to the people who filled in on Saturday—it meant that we could have a game.

In a thrilling and tightly contested netball match, our Year 10-12 Vixens

emerged victorious with a 41-31 win over Monivae, thanks to a strong finish in the final quarter. Both teams demonstrated exceptional accuracy in shooting throughout the game, with each side making the most of their opportunities under the hoop. The match remained neck-and-neck for most of the game, with neither team able to create a significant margin. College’s defensive pressure forced some turnovers, and their ball movement around the court and feeds into the goal circle were spot on. The shooters remained calm and composed, allowing College to pull away in the final quarter.

The T’birds mixed up their combinations on the weekend, and displayed some really impressive movement of the ball down the court.  The defensive end was strong, and the attacking end capitalised on this by shooting accurately and working hard on creating turnovers.  Several players put on bibs that they may not have normally taken and did an excellent job.  They, too, had some players away, but the team played very strongly.  (Thank you to Mrs Spence for filling in coaching).

Again, thank our coaches, managers, parents, umpires, and Hamilton Netball Association for making the competition possible.

Rowing

A big thank you to all parents for driving us to Nagambie last weekend. What a fun weekend for the state rowing championships. Congratulations to the Senior Boys Quad Scull and to Mhairi and Hannah on their silver medals.

This week saw Berry victorious at the House Rowing Competition. With strong leadership from our senior boys four mixed crews raced 750m on Lake Hamilton for a healthy competition.

Don't forget rowers to book your seat at the end of season dinner here!
