I am very pleased to be able to announce that next Tuesday, we will see workers onsite and beginning groundworks for the long-planned Middle Years landscaping project. The project will sit between the myPEC building and the College oval, and will be completed over the coming months. It will see the introduction of:

  • separated and private student seating areas

  • larger class gathering areas

  • tree and shrub plantings

  • feature garden beds, and

  • a play-based structure for students to climb and scramble on.

This project has been the fundraising focus of the Parents’ and Friends’ Association under the last four Executive teams. The idea grew from a desire to provide more secluded spaces and seating for smaller groups of friends, and to provide more things to do when students arrive into the Middle Years from strongly play-based primary school environments. The Middle Years are years of transition and so, with our partnering landscape architects, we have developed a landscape design and structures which are somewhere appropriately between a kids’ playground and a landscaped garden. We look forward to ‘turning the sod’ on the project early next week with P&F representatives, and then watching the space develop.

I am grateful for the significant contribution the P&F has made to this project and to all members of the College community who have supported their efforts over the past few years.
