STEM

We are excited about our community STEM Festival on Tuesday 1st April from 4:00 to 6:00 PM.
In addition, there will also be a barbeque from 3:30 PM, so no need to go home and come back!
The stations profile the learning students have been doing in STEM with Josh, as well as some engaging, hands-on interactive activities suitable for any age. These include:
Pinewood Derby – We invitefamilies to design and construct a miniature car that can travel along our specially designed track which contains a starting ramp and long straight section. The cars must be unpowered with a length of no more than 180mm (18cm) and a width of no more than 70mm (7cm) to fit down a track that is 80mm (8cm) wide. Aerodynamics, drag, friction and other scientific concepts will be tested in racing your Pinewood cars against others. The winner will have a session with Josh to 3D print a design of their choice.
Water Rockets – Soft drink bottle rockets using water and compressed air as propulsion. We will have a range of different bottle rockets, but we also encourage you to make and bring your own. You might consider aerodynamics and even parachutes. Soft drink bottles need to be 1.25litres to fit on the rocket launchers.
Sphero Soccer – Dribble, pass and score in Sphero Soccer! Test your driving skills and challenge a friend to the ultimate robotic match!
Scratch – Dive into Scratch Creations. Explore interactive games and animations designed by students of all year levels, ready for you to play and enjoy!
Micro:bits – Check out the MicroBit Creations! The grade 3/4 students have engineered amazing Lego designs, from pets to buildings and coded their MicroBits to bring these designs to life!
Makey Makey – Get hands-on with Makey Makey Controllers! The grade 5/6 students have engineered unique controllers to bring games and simulations to life. Play and interact like never before!
Ozobots – Embark on an adventure with Ozobots! Experiment with these tiny robots and use the materials provided to guide your Ozobot on a journey of your own design!
MakeDo – Unleash your creativity in the MakeDo Room! Use tools, cardboard and more to bring your wildest ideas to life! Please leave your creations for others to enjoy!
Felting – Turn soft, fluffy fibres into strong, creative materials through rolling, twisting, and agitating with warm water and soap!
Billy Cart Time Trials – Race against the clock in Billy Cart Time Trials! Hop into a handmade cart designed by last year’s 5/6 carpentry team and speed through the course!
Scratch Jnr – Discover the magic of ScratchJR. Students have been coding games and animations, bringing their ideas to life in an interactive way!
Shelter Building – Explore the ancient art of shelter-building, inspired by the Wurundjeri People, and use the materials around you to create your own unique structure!
We are so excited for your family to visit our school and see the incredible work students have created for you to enjoy.
See you there,
Josh and the TPS Staff
