Altona North Campus News

Term 2 has been a rich and eventful time at our Campus, filled with exciting learning experiences that have extended well beyond the classroom. From excursions and camps to engaging in wellbeing programs, students have had many opportunities to grow — learning to be cyber safe, understanding what a healthy relationship is, and embracing the leadership opportunities we provide all, with a focus on our SRC.
We’ve also explored healthy eating habits, with one lucky grade wrapping up their learning with a delicious, nutritious morning tea. Our Primary Assemblies, now held once a fortnight, have provided us with a chance to recognise and celebrate the achievements of our younger students — a wonderful tradition in the making.
On the sporting field, we continue to punch above our weight. From our primary girls to our determined table tennis teams, we’ve seen both triumphs and valuable learning moments. For a school of our size, our sporting spirit is something to be proud of.
Many of these moments have already been shared through News Feeds during the term, so in this edition of the newsletter, we’ll turn our attention to a very special event — Harmony Day.
Harmony Day reminds us that everyone belongs. It’s a celebration of our community’s, of us— and this year’s event was a beautiful example of what happens when we come together to share culture, talent, and kindness.
We hope you enjoy reliving the highlights with us.
Our mayor, councillor Daria Kellander who gave the key note address on the theme of belonging in reference to Hobsons Bay and the respect that is shown to all by all.
Our Campus concert provided us with joy and enthusiasm as we watched our incredible students singing, dancing, drumming and celebrating each performance, including our incredible secondary bands.
What we all waited for, the culinary delights as we enjoyed the lunch prepared by our families.
We look forward to welcoming our parents and community to the Altona North Campus in term 3, where we will proudly share our learning and growth with you.
Have an enjoyable break, rest, be safe and be ready to start again in term 3, Monday 21st July.

Badminton Success!
Hard work, effort, determination and skill continues to shine at the Altona North campus in badminton. Our teams trained from the beginning of the term and continue to show great success.
Here are our Year 7, 8 and 9 girls, all achieving the runners up pennant. Only being beaten by a school over ten times our population.
CERES Excursion Fun
The students in P-3 attended an excursion to CERES which strongly supported their understanding of our inquiry topic on sustainability. The excursion focused on creating less waste and rethinking the ways we can use the waste we make. The students engaged in the below rotational activities throughout the day.
- Merri Creek Walk - students learnt how litter can impact our waterways during a walk along the Merri Creek.
- Composting - students learnt how composting helps us reduce food waste while also helping our gardens grow. Students also looked at the importance of minibeasts and worms as helpers who keep the soils healthy.
- Paper Making - students learnt about where paper comes from and the importance of trees. They also created their own piece of paper using pulp made from used paper.
All activities were a huge success. Students demonstrated respect towards the leaders running the activities which we were super proud of.
Healthy Food Choices
In Term 1, our Grade 4/5 students focused on learning about healthy food choices and the six essential nutrients we need to include in our lunchboxes to fuel our bodies and minds.
Building on this knowledge, Term 2 was all about putting their learning into practice. Students worked on selecting and packing balanced, nutritious lunches — applying what they’d learnt in real and meaningful ways.
To celebrate their fantastic efforts, Ms Coghlan and her daughter Arijana treated the class to a delicious and healthy morning tea. The menu included:
- Yoghurt, muesli, and fruit stacks
- Vegetable sticks with dip
- Corn fritters
- Blueberry and banana muffins
- And of course, a refreshing bottle of water!
It was a wonderful way to reinforce healthy habits and enjoy the rewards of their hard work. Well done to all our Grade 4/5 students — and thank you to Ms Coghlan and Arijana for the tasty and nutritious celebration!
