Patron Saints of Grandparents
On July 26th each year, the Church commemorates the Feast of Saints Joachim and Anne, the parents of the Blessed Virgin Mary, also the grandparents of Jesus.
It was in the home of Saints Joachim and Anne where the Virgin Mary received her training to be the Mother of God. Thus, devotion to Anne and Joachim is an extension of the affection Christians have always professed toward our Blessed Mother.
We, too, owe a debt of gratitude to our parents and grandparents for their help in our Christian formation. The Church invokes this saintly couple as the patron of grandparents.
Recently, Pope Leo asked us to look to grandparents as witnesses of hope, capable of lighting the path for new generations.
Heavenly Father,
we thank you for the gift of grandparents
for how they take care of us,
they play with us, they inspire us.
Bless them with health and happiness.
May we always care for them and honour them.
Amen
Feast Day Masses
In August, we will celebrate two special Feast Days with whole school Masses. On Friday 8th August we will celebrate St Mary of the Cross MacKillop and on 15th August we will celebrate the Feast of the Assumption. Families are welcome to join us at the 9:15 Mass in our church on both occasions.
