Year 6 'Community Song' Unit
In Term 2, our Year 6 students embarked on a creative and meaningful project as part of their Music, Dance and Drama program. The focus was on the concept of Community -what it means, how it feels and how we can express it through music.
As part of the unit, students composed and produced their own original song using digital music production tools. Once the music was complete, students brought their lyrics to life by creating their own lyric music videos using Canva, combining sound, visuals and personal meaning in a powerful way.
At our Week 2 assembly, Zack and Ophelia from 6T proudly shared their work with the school community. Ophelia introduced her song Jewel, a calm and uplifting anthem that celebrates individuality and reminds us that everyone is valuable, just like a precious gem.
Zack followed with Together, a song co-produced with Ailie about unity, support and what it means to be part of a strong, connected community. Both performances were a huge hit and sparked lots of positive feedback from students and staff alike.
We’re excited to announce that for the rest of the term, we’ll be showcasing a new student-created song at the end of each assembly. These songs are not only impressive pieces of work but also heartfelt reflections on how we can all play a role in building a supportive and inclusive school environment.
What a wonderful reminder of the creativity and empathy our Year 6 students bring to our school community. We can’t wait to share more of their musical masterpieces in the coming weeks!
