TERM 3 WEEK 2 2025

Week 4 Update!

Term 3 is going very smoothly. Students and teachers have been working hard on their documentation for Learning Conferences, which began this week, while also preparing for the excitement of Book Week.

Our annual Book Week Parade, which is being held next Monday at 9am in the Gym, is always a highlight, and students and staff can’t wait to see the wonderful array of costumes. Who will take out “most creative” this year? We’re looking forward to seeing the imaginative ideas our students bring to life.

For full details on Book Week activities, including times and guidelines for the parade, please see the information later in this newsletter.

Our Esports Team has been further recognised with an article in We Are SA, which highlights their amazing achievement. The boys also had the opportunity to compete in the SA Minecraft Capture the Flag competition a few weeks ago. Please see the Esports page for further details.

Pupil Free Day – Focusing on Learner Qualities

On Friday, 1 August, staff came together for our third Pupil Free Day of the year. The focus was on reviewing the impact of teaching and learning around our Learner Qualities during Semester 1, and planning for Semester 2.

Teachers analysed student video diaries to explore how well learners understand and apply the qualities of Resilient, Independent, and Collaborative. Students reflected on questions such as:

  • I can explain how each Learner Quality supports learning.

  • I can relate the Learner Quality to a learning situation.

  • I can connect the Learner Quality to success in learning.

  • I can explain the connections between using the Learner Quality and my learning success.

These reflections showed that students have a strong and growing understanding of how our Learner Qualities support their success. Teachers are now using this insight to guide learning plans for Semester 2, ensuring students continue to build and apply these important skills.

It’s inspiring to see the progress our learners are making not just in what they know, but in how they understand themselves as learners.

Keeping Our School Healthy: When to Keep Kids Home

During the cooler months, it’s important we work together to keep illness from spreading at LNPS.  Regular attendance is important, but so is protecting our community from avoidable sickness.

When to Stay Home

Please keep your child at home if they have:

  • A fever or high temperature
  • Vomiting or diarrhoea – they should stay home for 48 hours after symptoms end.
  • Worsening respiratory symptoms (e.g. persistent cough, shortness of breath)
  • A rash or skin condition that may be contagious

When It’s OK to Attend

If your child has a mild cough or cold but feels well enough to join in learning and does not have a fever  they can usually attend school.

Helping Reduce Sickness

  • Encourage regular handwashing and covering coughs/sneezes
  • Keep vaccinations up to date, including the flu shot
  • Remind children to avoid sharing food or drink

Doing Our Part at School

Our school follows guidance from the DfE and Health SA to support both health and attendance by reinforcing standard hygiene practices with students, including:

  •  regular hand washing, particularly before eating and after using the toilet;
  • elbow to mouth when sneezing and coughing etc

By following these simple steps, we can help keep our classrooms healthy, reduce illness-related absences, and make sure students are ready to learn.
