🎮 Congratulations to Our AEL Year 6 Minecraft Capture the Flag Team! 🎮

A huge congratulations to Aarush, Hamish, Hugo, and Alexander, who proudly represented our school at the AEL School Esports competition for Minecraft: Capture the Flag. The tournament took place at Science Alive Adelaide, presented by Inspiring South Australia.

The boys started strong, securing an incredible first-game victory against a High School team, an outstanding achievement in itself! We were the only Primary School competing on the day, making their performance even more impressive.

Although they were narrowly defeated in their second game, the team finished in 4th place overall, which is an exceptional result against older and more experienced opposition.

On the day of the tournament, there were 150 students that took part in a range of exciting games, including FC 25, Mario Kart, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, and Minecraft: CTF.

Well done, boys!! You have represented our school with great skill, teamwork, and sportsmanship!

Student Insights

On Friday, the 1st of August, we went to compete in the capture the flag minecraft competition. When we went to the Adelaide Showground, we were really excited about the games. In the game of capture the flag, there are two teams with their own base in a small area where you have to go and infiltrate the other team’s base and try to take their flag back to your base to score a point for your team. In twenty minutes, you have to get the most flags captured. In a map, there is a pillager outpost where there are bots defending a castle and when you beat all the bots, you get a reward of overpowered items such as armour and swords also rare potions of speed and strength.

In the first game, we played Harvest Christian College, and we won 8-5. We destroyed them in the beginning, but at the end, they got a few points. Luckily, we still managed to put up enough defense to secure a vik, which made us advance to the semi-finals and be able to see the rest of the teams and their style and play. Some different schools with year eleven students and year eight and nine students played very well. With our victory against Harvest Christian College, we got into the semi finals of the competition, which we were beyond excited about.

In our second game, we played against Banksia Park International High School, and unfortunately, we were defeated. They won with a score of 6 to 0. Their team consisted of year eleven students, including a highly skilled player who is ranked among the top 10,000 in the world. Despite having minimal defence around their flag, their aggressive tactics and excellent strategies prevented us from capturing it. As there was another game happening at the same time, after this game, we then had to compete in another round for 3rd place.

In the third-place match, which was our third game, we faced Prescott College. Prior to our second game, there were issues with the sound and control settings, which was frustrating throughout the match, but we showed the school value of resilience and persevered.. Prescott College were the winners with a score of 6-0, largely due to their older and more experienced players.

Overall, we had a fantastic day, and we are very honoured to represent the school at the event. It was something that we could never forget. We would like to give a massive thank you to Mr Bayly, Mr Grinham and Mr Starr for helping us prepare for the big day. Another shout out goes to our amazing parents who joined us on the day to help cheer us on. Ps. Thank you, Micki, for the behind-the-scenes work!

We 1000000000000% recommend all year 6 students to nominate themselves to be in the E-Sports team when they get to year 6, as it is an unforgettable experience.
