Student Achievements

Kalinda Kids shine!
Every day Kalinda kids are achieving great things in their classroom and yard, but we know that outside of school, they are often kicking lots of goals as well (literally and figuratively)! Celebrating the growth of 'the whole child' is something we treasure.
If your student has an achievement that you would like to share please send to Mrs. Hopkins so that we can celebrate them in the newsletter! Whether it is a sporting achievement, Karate grade, Cub badge, community service or amazing new skill - we want to share it with our community.
I can't wait to hear about your achievements and share them with our community!

Millie and Josh take to the stage
Submitted by proud mum Jo
At the end of term 2 Millie Grace (grade 4) & Josh Grace (grade 2) performed on stage with the Youth Australian Broadway Chorus (YABC). They each performed on stage on separate nights in St Kilda at the National Theatre. Millie performed on a Sunday afternoon & Josh performed on a Monday night straight after school. Can you imagine doing a whole day of school then driving 1hour to St Kilda for a 2hour full dress rehearsal followed by a 2hour performance? Well that's what Josh did! What a superstar!
Both Millie & Josh were exhausted after their performances (especially Josh). They each performed in 4 singing & dancing acts, & a series of songs for the finale. They were on stage with 40 other students in their age-group performance. But they only knew 10-15 other kids their age: those who they rehearse with each week in Croydon. The performances included kids from all over Melbourne, from Berwick to Williamstown, & ranging in age from 6years old to 18years old. The finale had over 300 students on stage at the same time! Almost every other child they shared the stage with was a new face they met on the day. It was a challenging & exciting experience for both Millie & Josh. Seeing first hand how large scale productions work, with rapid costume changes, set changes & bustling backstage activity as different groups got ready to go on stage for their turn. Millie & Josh both showed great resilience by facing & overcoming their stage nerves, wearing never-before-seen costumes, & working with groups of unknown people on the performance day. They did it all on their own with no parent help backstage.
We were very proud of them for conquering their fears & giving it their best, as this was their first time in the YABC program. What a whirlwind experience it was, but they both enjoyed it & were buzzing with songs & dance steps afterwards.
Footy success for Kalinda kids
Submitted by proud dad Mark (with consent from all parents involved)
Kalinda grade 5 students Tom A, Toby J and Jack F played in their first fully competitive season of football for Norwood U11s this year. Their team won a minor premiership with an 11-1 record, and made it all the way to the grand final at the first time of asking, where they came agonisingly close to a win. The boys exemplified the Kalinda values of kindness, respect and resilience in the final and throughout the season. All three contributed with goals, assists, marks and tackles, but most importantly they were there for each other and their team mates through the highs and lows. We are so proud of them and we can't wait to see how they build on their incredible success next year and beyond.
