CELEBRATING ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE@CSPS

Foundation News

It has been wonderful to see the students so engaged and enthusiastic in their learning this term.

In Literacy, our students have been building their confidence with high frequency words—reading, spelling, and using them in their writing. We have also continued to focus on developing correct letter formation. Students are practising forming their letters clearly and consistently. Foundations are learning to incorporate the who, what, when, and where in their writing, helping them to expand their sentences by adding extra detail.

In Mathematics, students have been extending their understanding of numbers beyond 10. They are learning to count, compare, and represent numbers in various ways, using hands-on materials to support their understanding. Subtraction has been another focus this term. Students have used concrete materials and visual representations to solve subtraction problems, developing a solid understanding of how to work out the answer and how to record subtraction problems accurately.  We’ve also been learning about measurement, particularly focusing on identifying objects that are heavy or light and they have also explored the features of 2D shapes.

Through our Inquiry unit, Foundation students have been learning about how to stay safe and healthy. This has included discussions around healthy eating, and safety at home, school, and in the community. Students have enjoyed learning about the important people who help us stay safe and well, and how they support our communities. They had an enjoyable yet exhausting week undertaking the swimming program at Casey Race, however it was a highly valuable experience for all who attended.

Reading & Writing

Our Reading and Writing sessions have centred around Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. They have designed new characters and rooms for the factory, carefully describing them using the five senses.

In Core Knowledge, students have extended their study of the novel by designing their very own imaginative factory room. They have used creativity and problem-solving to bring their ideas to life.

STOMP

In STOMP, students have been engaging in fun, high-energy movement and performance activities. They have enjoyed working together to create rhythmic patterns, experimenting with body percussion and exploring how sound and movement can be combined to make exciting performances.
