Principal's Message

Brock Wilson

Hello everyone,

Can you believe we are already nearly halfway through Term 3? There are some wonderful things to look forward to in the next few weeks here at Roxburgh Homestead Primary School.

Book Week

If your children are anything like my oldest daughter, next week is a big one! Starting Monday, the students will be engaging in all sorts of activities aimed at building a love of reading. With strong reading being so important to school achievement, join us in reinforcing the positive message around finding books that you and your children love. A particular highlight of the week is always the Book Week Parade, which will be held on Wednesday the 20th of August in our school gymnasium. I’m looking forward to seeing the kids all dressed up as their favourite book characters. Check out Compass for all the specifics about the event.

Bullying

The Bullying No Way: National week of action was held this week and gave us a good platform to speak with our students about their role in maintaining a positive school environment. As a school, we take a firm stance and address all forms of bullying, including online. As always, please approach the school if you have concerns around your child’s social interactions as we take bullying concerns very seriously. My message to all students, staff and families is simple, and that is that everyone deserves to feel safe at our school and it is our collective responsibility to make sure our school is a safe place for all.

This year’s theme was ‘Be bold. Be kind. Speak up’. It encouraged students and school staff to speak up and foster safe spaces where everyone feels supported and respected, and all voices are heard and valued.

The Child Safe Standards help ensure students feel safe and are safe. Child Safe Standard 9 requires schools to promote a culture of physical and online safety for all students. Bullying No Way: National week of action is a chance to raise awareness to prevent bullying and violence.

Success Day Subcommittee

I sent out a Compass post last week looking for volunteers who would like to work with the school to plan a big event at the end of the year. Rather than the school organising this on behalf of the community, we’d love to do it with the community. To make this happen, we’re forming a parent sub-committee to work alongside our staff and help shape something truly special.

The sub-committee will likely meet around 2:30pm on select Thursdays, ahead of school pickup. Once we know who’s interested, we’ll confirm the dates and details.

If you’d like to be involved, please email us at: roxburgh.homestead@education.vic.gov.au

That’s all from me for another newsletter – wishing you and your family a lovely weekend ahead.

Kind Regards,

Brock Wilson
