Generational Leadership Program
Kellyville High School is proud to have a group of select students who graduated from the Generational Leadership Program run by the Future Leader Group.
Generational Leaders is a program proven to deliver on intergenerational engagement, personal leadership and community development. They partner with organisations (business, corporate, Councils) to professionally develop their coaching and leadership skills. Over 4-5 months, these team members then coach a local high school participant as they embark on a significant personal and community leadership journey.
Each participant identifies a need in the community that they address in a creative way to make a genuine difference and leave a legacy. Kellyville High School students identified and addressed issues such as Mental Health in Seniors, affordable farm to school canteen healthy options, and physical health in teens.
Time and again, this leadership journey delivers lasting change for the individuals and the communities involved
Great job and congratulations to Lily R., Rachel R., Cody S. and Shriya W.
Alumni Spotlight: Audrey Hawkins Shines at Sydney University
We’re thrilled to celebrate the achievements of one of our recent graduates, Audrey Hawkins (HSC 2023/24), who is already making waves in her first year at the University of Sydney.
Audrey recently published her debut article in Honi Soit, the university’s student newspaper—and not only did it appear in last week's edition, it was the feature article in the Perspective section. Her piece, titled “You Need To Be Inconvenienced”, explores the complexities of human connection in the digital age, and has already sparked meaningful conversations among readers. You can read it on Honi Soit’s website.
But Audrey’s momentum doesn’t stop there. She already has a second article in the editing pipeline and is on the ticket to potentially join next year’s editorial committee—an incredible accomplishment for a first-year student.
Audrey is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Science (Psychology) and Bachelor of Arts (Archaeology), with a minor in English. Her interdisciplinary studies and passion for writing are clearly flourishing.
Audrey and her family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to all the teachers and staff who supported Audrey throughout her time at school. Your encouragement and belief in her abilities—especially during moments of doubt—played a vital role in her journey.
Congratulations, Audrey! We can’t wait to see what you do next.
Media Team News
Students in the Media Team are currently in the process of editing the short film “Slip Stitch”. The team has been granted permission to submit the film to the Academy for Oscar’s consideration. Editing will take place over the next six months.
In other exciting news the team was approached by El Pez Production to film and edit two episodes for a TV series to be screened on ABC. Currently discussions are being held between both side’s legal teams, and it is hoped that this project will begin to take place in the near future. Preliminary talks have already been held between Kellyville High School and the production company.
The team recently filmed, edited and provided the Department a video of the New Bloods Festival held in Wollongong. The team will be travelling down again November 15 to film another concert for the Department
RODE microphones have re-established its sponsorship of the Media Team and has recently provided the team with merchandise and hardware equipment. Thankyou RODE!!
Year 11 Urban Challenge
In Week 4, our Year 11 students embarked on the much-anticipated Urban Challenge Camp—an unforgettable adventure across Sydney’s CBD. For three days, they were the leaders, responsible for budgeting, navigating, caring for their teachers (yes, even ensuring coffee breaks!), and working together to complete a wide variety of missions. Students were dressed to impress in animal onesies, explorers, idols and security, straw hats, fairies, strawberry shortcakes, aliens, and more!
From Bondi Beach in the rain, where students tried to track down friendly dogs to care for, to the challenge of posting a letter for the very first time and learning the novelty of a postcard, every activity tested their initiative and teamwork. Meals were a mix of toast and cereal breakfasts, fish and chips by the water, and one particularly thrifty group who devoured three kilograms of chicken wings for lunch to save their budget!
Students also engaged in meaningful service, spending time cooking meals for the homeless. This experience reminded them of the importance of empathy and giving back to the community, and was a highlight for many who felt proud to make a small but real difference. The evenings were just as lively, with sing-a-ongs, laughter, and camaraderie building across the grade.
Highlights included one group of boys escaping one of the hardest escape rooms (with only a 5% success rate!), a group dance challenge beside the ICC, completing trivia and navigating mission, and an unforgettable night-time curfew of 9:30pm that ensured everyone was ready for the next day. One student successfully navigated the city in a wheelchair with her supportive team, another bowling across two lanes during a group bowling match. And, of course, there were the “four aliens”: students dressed in bright blown-up alien suits who became instant celebrities in Sydney, drawing the attention of tourists and children wherever they went.
Whether it was overpacking and juggling too many bags, showing off street smarts to solve puzzles, or working with a mix of personalities to win points, Year 11 proved themselves time and again. The Urban Challenge tested resilience, creativity, compassion, and leadership—and the grade shone.
Year 11 returned home with tired feet, fuller hearts, and memories they will carry well beyond high school. A huge thank you to the teachers who volunteered to take Year 11s to this amazing camp: Mr. Cheney, Mr. Depalo, Ms. Mitai, Ms. Maloney, Miss. Maloney, Mr. Maistry, Ms. Pinto.
