Simon Fairall - Head of Junior School

From the Head of Junior School

What an incredible fortnight it has been in the Junior School! Our students have embraced challenges, celebrated achievements, and strengthened connections across our Trinity community.

Exciting New Additions to Our Junior School Team

We are thrilled to welcome four outstanding educators to Trinity Junior School in 2026. Each brings unique strengths, passion, and experience that will enrich our learning community.

  • Tomas McIntosh – Kindergarten
    • Tomas is passionate about creating a warm, engaging environment for our youngest learners. His expertise in early childhood development will ensure a smooth and joyful start to school life for our Kindergarten students.

  • Laura Thiele – Year 1
    • Laura brings experience in early literacy and numeracy development. Her nurturing approach and creative classroom strategies will help our Year 1 students thrive as confident learners.

  • Nick Turner – Year 2
    • Nick has a strong focus on building foundational skills and fostering curiosity in young minds. His energy and dedication to student wellbeing will make a positive impact in Year 2.

  • Ben Lord – Year 6
    • Ben joins us with a strong background in upper primary education and a commitment to fostering leadership and independence in students. His enthusiasm for learning, particularly literacy, will be a great asset to our senior primary years.

All four new staff members will join us for Step Up Day on Friday 28 November, where they will meet their 2026 classes and begin their journey into the Trinity community. We are excited for the fresh ideas and enthusiasm they will bring to our school.

Please join us in giving Ben, Laura, Tomas, and Nick a warm Trinity welcome!

Final Kindergarten Transition Day

Our 2026 Kindergarten students have had an incredibly successful transition program. Over the past sessions, they’ve settled beautifully into routines and classroom life - so much so that they already look like they’ve been part of the school for some time!

We are excited to welcome them for their final transition day on Friday 28 November.

2026 K–7 Step Up Day

Our annual K–7 Step Up Day will take place on Friday 28 November. All current and newly enrolled students for 2026 will spend the day in their draft classes, meeting their peers and teachers for the year ahead. This important day helps ease the transition into a new school year by building familiarity, connection, and excitement for what’s to come.

Thank you for your ongoing support as we continue to create experiences that challenge, inspire, and connect our students.

Being Upstanders, Not Bystanders

At Trinity, we believe every student has the power to make a positive difference. Recent updates, including the introduction of the National Rapid Response to Bullying Framework, reinforce the importance of speaking up when bullying or inappropriate behavior occurs. This framework calls on schools and communities to act swiftly and effectively to protect students and foster safe environments.

Being an upstander means more than just noticing - it means taking action early. This includes communicating promptly with teachers, parents, or another trusted adult so intervention can occur as soon as possible. By speaking up, students help ensure that issues are addressed before they escalate.

We encourage our young people to advocate for themselves and others, ensuring that no one feels isolated or unheard. Our commitment is to continue educating and equipping students with the skills and confidence to manage these situations. Together, we can create a culture where kindness, respect, and courage thrive.

Trinity is committed to providing a safe environment for every member of our community, and early communication and intervention is critical to this success.

Uniform Expectations

Please remember our uniform standards:

  • No hat, no play applies at all times. If a student does not have a hat, they will be required to play in the shaded outdoor chapel space during lunch and recess breaks.

With parents beginning to consider upgrades to school shoes over the break, I remind families that:

  • Students need to wear black leather lace-up shoes (Velcro equivalents can be worn if securing laces are an issue), not athletic runner or skate-style leather shoes.
  • Students wearing incorrect shoes will be challenged by Home Class Teachers, and parents informed.
  • Alternative shoes can only be worn if approval is granted by the Head of Junior School for medical reasons.
  • The shoe requirements are for safety reasons in the event students access specialist sites (STEM, Science, TAS) or lessons at school.
  • Further updates will be communicated before the end of the year so parents can ensure the correct uniform items are being worn.

K–2 Swimming Day: Confidence in Action

Hot on the heels of our K–2 Swim Program, we celebrated with a fantastic Swimming Day for our youngest learners. The program has been instrumental in building confidence and capacity in the water, and the Swimming Day showcased just how far they’ve come. A huge thank you to our Year 10 students who led all events with energy and care. Their mentoring and service exemplify the spirit of Trinity.

One parent summed it up beautifully:

“Just fantastic to see the Senior students assist so positively, caring and energetic. I hope to one day see my child doing the same with future K–2 students - it makes us so proud to be a part of the Trinity community!”

Year 4 Artworks

Our Year 4 students had a fantastic time diving into Australian wildlife through clay art, inspired by the vibrant and playful style of artist Pete Cromer.

They even used leftover clay to design their own imaginative thumb-pot creatures - a fun blend of creativity and hands-on clay-joining techniques!

Christmas Hamper Donations

This year once again, the Junior School would like to assist those who are in need in our community. We are asking for donations of goods that can be placed in Christmas Hampers which are then given out by our Anglican Parishes via their food banks, to people that will most benefit.

The types of Christmas fare for hampers are those items people might eat themselves for Christmas celebrations; things like mince tarts, puddings and savoury nibbles as all these kinds of things are ideal and move out of the food banks quickly. The donation of food needs to be fresh – not past the use by date, and it cannot be food that requires refrigeration.

The aim is to donate to Christmas Hampers specifically, although, other food you would term as ‘normal’ food donations; pasta, tinned goods, those sorts of things are absolutely needed and very appreciated. If you find that you would like to donate, but can’t donate specific Christmas fare, then ‘normal’ food is also very welcome.

You may send your donations into your child’s classroom where classes will have a box designated for collection. If you have questions, please do not hesitate to contact Mrs Campbell via michelle.campbell@trinityac.nsw.edu.au.

We are looking forward to helping share some Christmas cheer to those who may be finding life financially difficult during these times.
