Ryan's Rambling

Dear Families,
Another wonderful week here at Dana Street. It was one of the busier ones for the year; however, we were busy with so many positive things!
Thank you to the many parents, friends and community members who came to our official Mural opening on Monday afternoon. Having our community present to celebrate this symbolic representation of our positive school culture, our connectedness and our achievements was one of this year’s highlights for many of us. Thank you to Traditional Owner, Kellie Phillips, for providing us with a powerful Welcome to Country to begin proceedings. Our School Leaders, again, shone in their emcee roles.
Our school was abuzz with excitement and a little trepidation on Tuesday morning as we completed our Transition Day. Students met with their new teachers and classmates and, before long, all sense of nervousness and worry seemed to dissipate. Our 2026 classes seemed calm, focused and positive, which I know were relieving for many.
Dana’s Got Talent was the highlight of Thursday. Our school leaders did a magnificent job of coordinating and hosting the event. There were so many heartwarming moments from the show. Some students became overwhelmed when performing, but our amazing students read the room well and didn’t hold back with kindness and encouragement. The crowd was in absolute awe with some of the talent evident across the school. From incredible vocalists to crisply choreographed dancing, the crowd continued to cheer and celebrate. What a fantastic event! Well done, Dana Street!
In some staffing news, the beginning of next year will look slightly different than originally thought. Bec Wong will be beginning maternity leave during the school holidays, which is incredibly exciting for her and her partner. Bec has indicated that she will be back to work, in her Japanese role, sometime in Semester One. As recruitment of language teachers is quite difficult at this stage of the year, we will begin next year with two sessions of PE for each class. Japanese will return when Bec returns to her role. Emma Remilton has kindly agreed to do this role, which I am very grateful for.
Congratulations to our four School Values awards winners this term. We should all aspire to be just like them. My hope is that our Dana Street Values continue to guide all our students to be the best that they can be, always. Congratulations to Harvey, Henry, James and Celeste. We are all very proud of you.
Finally, there is one week left of school for the year. Our Graduation Ceremony will occur next Wednesday evening, and our final Assembly will be from approximately 12:45 on Friday, before a 1:30pm dismissal. I hope to see you all next week at our final assembly.
Have a great weekend.
Ryan
