Prep Bulletin

As we come to the end of a busy and exciting final term in Prep, we are excited to share some of the wonderful learning experiences our students have enjoyed!
TwistED Science Excursion
Our Prep students started the term off with an exciting day at TwistED Science, connecting their learning to our Big Idea: ‘Seasons affect how the world works and influence the way we live.’ Students explored biological, chemical, earth and space, and physical sciences through hands-on experiences. In the Playzone, they were encouraged to experiment, wonder, and explore through interactive exhibits. During the Weather Watch workshop, students explored what weather is, why it changes, and our four seasons. They matched weather to clothing and made their own mini storms and twisty tornados! The day finished with an exciting science show performed by real scientists.
STEM - INSPIRE Robotics Program
Throughout the term, students participated in the INSPIRE Robotics - Animated Wonders program, working in teams to design and create their own interactive robots. They followed the full engineering design process- Ask, Imagine, Plan, Create, Test, and Improve, while using real electronics to bring their chosen animals or characters to life. The children showed wonderful teamwork, persistence, and creativity as they solved problems and refined their ideas. The Preps were so proud to show off their creations to families and friends at the final session! Many children expressed that this program was the highlight of their semester.
Cooking Program
Our cooking sessions have been a highlight this term, with students working together to prepare and share dishes such as Best-Ever Italian Salad, Eggplant Pasta, Roasted Zucchini Chips, and Mixed Berry Crumble. These sessions have helped students build independence, practise following instructions, and develop healthy cooking habits. Working as a team, they measured ingredients, mixed, chopped, and helped clean up. Sharing the meals at the end was a wonderful way to come together and share our learning. We would like to also give a very special mention to our Prep parents who helped with these sessions.
Junior Sports Day
Our Junior Sports Day was a big success! Students participated in nine events, including the sprint, hurdles, tug-of-war, limbo, soccer goal scoring, target throwing, furthest throw, sack race, and egg-and-spoon race. All students dressed up in their house colours and competed in class groups. They were led and supported by our Year 5/6 leaders who helped demonstrate and run activities. Our Preps displayed great enthusiasm and teamwork as they encouraged their peers, tried their best in every event, and celebrated each other’s achievements. It was wonderful to see so many smiling faces and a strong sense of community throughout the day.
Why Worry Wally
Students recently took part in the Why Worry Wally? wellbeing incursion, which helped them learn more about worries and what to do when they feel them. The session was lead by Rick Foster, the author of Why Worry Wally? and Andy Parthenopoulos, a Primary School Teacher and Wellbeing Provider. Together they shared the story, talked with the students, and guided them through activities that helped them understand that everyone feels worried sometimes.
The program also explored strategies students can use to calm their worries, as well as how to ask for help from a trusted adult. The messages in the incursion support our school’s wellbeing program and help students build confidence in talking about their feelings.
We would like to wish all of our wonderful Prep students the very best as they get ready to transition into Grade 1. They have grown and learnt so much this year becoming more confident, independent, and curious learners. We know they will take all their hard work, friendships, and skills with them as they move into their next exciting chapter.
Good luck, Preps! We are so proud of you and can’t wait to see all the amazing things you’ll achieve in Grade 1.
Warm Regards,
Alyssa, Ruby and Julian
