STAGE 2 NEWS

It’s been another action packed couple of weeks in Stage 2 where there are always new ideas to explore!  A recent highlight was our Outdoor Learning Day where the students continued their learning outside of the classroom which is something that we do on a regular basis in Stage 2.

How does your garden grow? 🌱Well the stage 2 students have ensured, with the help of the Gardening Club, that the vegetable garden at Martin’s Gully is blooming.  The students carefully transplanted the plants that had been growing in the aeroponics tower into the school vegetable garden, that was after we had a delicious snack of beans from the bean plants growing in the tower.  Applying their creative talents, the students also designed plant labels and signage for the veggie patch using chalkboards.

Another activity that the children enjoyed was to take our Mathematics outside using chalk on the cement to pose and answer questions relating to multiplication, division and simple algebra.  The children all agreed that it made Maths much more interesting and some children even preferred writing with chalk over pencils and pens!

Yabbying with Matt was another highlight of the day, where the students learnt important lessons about how to safely pick up a yabby before studying and recording the yabbies’ behaviours.  Many of us overcame our fear by attempting to pick up a yabby!  The children made some interesting observations throughout the session including how yabbies react when threatened, the ways in which their movement in the water promotes survival and how their physical characteristics enable them to survive in the wild.

Orienteering was another activity that was greatly enjoyed by Stage 2 and for some it was a whole new experience.  New lap records were set and many new skills were learnt including map-reading and awareness of their surroundings.  The use of teamwork, patience and resilience were also necessary.

We are all looking forward to sharing our Survival Kit projects with the class next week.  If your child would like to bring their pack in early, then we can store them in the classroom until next week.  Don’t forget that you can send a photo in if you can’t physically bring the items to school.  Thank you to parents, carers, siblings and / or grandparents who have assisted in the development of these survival packs.

As part of our Christmas celebrations this year, we are going to exchange gifts in a ‘Secret Santa’ activity.  Each child who would like to be involved will draw another child’s name out of a hat. This is the person that they will MAKE a small gift for.  In the past, people have cooked Christmas food (such as White Christmas), used items from home to make Christmas craft or made Christmas ornaments.  Each child will need to place their present under the class Christmas tree by Thursday 18th December, as we will open our presents on that day. Thank you for your cooperation regarding this matter.

Thank you to all our Stage 2 community for your support throughout 2025.  We would like to wish everyone a safe and relaxing holiday.
