Year 5 Assembly

In our assembly, we learnt about Catholic Social Teachings. We held up posters and talked about our everyday life. We taught the students about Catholic Social Teachings by acting a skit and showing them not to disrespect the human life and dignity in our community. At the end of our assembly, we performed a song called “Go Make A Difference.” We chose this song so that our community will understand human rights and dignity and respect our everyday life. We told everybody that together we can make a difference and to try to help make this school a better and brighter community.

On Monday the 24th of November in Week 8, the Yr 5’s had an assembly about The Catholic Social teachings. We spoke about the ten catholic social teachings: Dignity of the Human Person, Common Good, Solidarity, Preferential Option for the Poor, Rights and Responsibilities, Dignity of Work and Rights of Workers, Stewardship of Creation, Role of Government and Subsidiarity and Participation and Peace.
In our assembly, we performed snippets of disrespecting life on earth such as littering, bullying and homelessness. In Religion, we learnt about Morality and Justice and felt it was really fitting for our assembly. We also made posters about the Catholic Social Teachings. After we performed a song “Make A Difference” and the Yr 5’s sang and danced to the whole school. We had an awesome time singing, dancing and teaching The Catholic Social Teachings to Good Shepherd

The Year 5 assembly was extremely successful, pushing all Year 5 pupils to try their best. Everyone participated and had something to do. Whether it was holding up posters that the Year 5 classes made, having a speaking part, or acting out scenes, everyone had fun and enjoyed the assembly. I had a speaking part to say and I had butterflies in my stomach before I began to speak, but after I spoke I felt like it wasn’t so bad.
The Assembly was about Religion matters that the Year 5 students had studied. We spoke about how we could make a difference by doing slight actions, like picking up rubbish to help the planet and giving to people in need. We also talked about how to stop bullying (Anti-Bullying) and to be the upstander, the person who stands up to not only themself, but stands up for others. We discussed the problems in the world we could help solve, such as Climate Change and Litter. We looked into problems like respect for everyone and supporting refugees more, making them feel more belonged to their new home. We mentioned economic and financial problems, that they would hopefully gradually become less.
At the end of the assembly we sang a little song called ‘GO MAKE A DIFFERENCE’ where we performed hand movements along with singing the song, to provide more entertainment. Go make a difference, we can make a difference! Overall, I thought it was pretty thrilling and enjoyable and I’m sure most other people would also think that! Now GO MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN THE WORLD!”
