Hi all

On Thursday night I was fortunate enough to give two awards to Year 6 studnts.  Lucy Gothard was awarded the 2024 SSV Academic and Sporting Achievement Medal for representing our school proudly.  Lucy has competed at Division level, and above, in cross country, athletics and swimming for the past three years.  To top it off, she came 4th in the high jump at the Victorian State Athletics carnival this year.   It’s an incredible body of work to have accrued.  Lucy is also very good in her team sports and plays rep netball and footy away from school.

The winner of the P.E. student of the year was Aiden Cramer.  In every P.E. class, Aiden meets and exceeds all expectations.  He gives it his all, he teams up with anyone, comes prepared, never complains, supports others, listens to all and makes others around him feel valued and respected.  Aiden also played in the Regional tennis finals, the Vic State AFL finals and was a member of the Vic State Champion cricket team.

Both Lucy and Aiden are very deserved winners amongst a very talented group of students.

Our Year 6 students had an amazing year in the S.S.V. pathway events.  Their teachers, Eva, George, Emma, Dani and Sarah set an environment that allowed them to thrive.  The kids pushed and lifted each other.  They never berated mistakes but did put their arm around those that had their head down.  In that type of atmosphere, the only way is up.

The Year 6 parents were also a big part of our success.  For our teams, the parent support was our “superpower”.   The way they networked rides and barracked for the kids on game day was a big contributor to our successes.  Furthermore, great kids come from great parenting and many of them have absolutely nailed it.  I wish you all the best in the secondary schools.

Finally, I hope you all have a great Christmas break full of family and fun. We look forward to seeing you all back in 2025.

Yours in Sport
