Harmonisation of vocational and university qualifications happening now...

VET Courses connect with degrees

The Australian Universities Accord is a Commonwealth government strategy that is driving a more connected higher education system.

Many graduates lack practical experience despite having an abundance of theoretical knowledge. Through Vocational Education and Training (VET) qualifications, new pathways that provide real-world, hands-on experience are being tested.

The lack of practical industry knowledge has been a concern of Australian Industries Group which is supporting the move towards dovetailing VET and undergraduate degrees. (You can read their response to the Accord HERE.)

Universities such as Curtain and Murdoch have already undergone mapping to identify VET credits towards degrees such as Diploma in Early Childhood Education, Diploma to Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Business. With these credits, it will help reduce the course length significantly.

By following an articulation pathway with a WA university, job seekers can utilize the Defence Industry VET Steps to Uni resource to find out if they can use academic credit from their WA TAFE vocational education and training (VET) degrees towards a university degree. (Access the resources HERE).
