David's Message

Dear Sunshine Heights Parents and Carers,

Welcome back to 2025, and a big and bright new year for all our students. What I've loved is seeing how quickly they have all settled in to the pattern of learning and growing those connections in their brains. We also got to welcome our amazing new prep students and their families as they settle in to the routine of learning at Sunny Heights. In the corridors we have our daily displays of learning for you to peruse each day with you child. Remember to ask your child "tell me about your learning today" and give them lots of praise for their efforts and growth.

Each year we welcome new staff to our team, and grow our amazing group of educators. This year we have some new (and a few familiar) faces joining the Sunny Squad. Miss Raquel and Rosa have joined our Education Support Team; many of you will recognise Rosa from her time at Big Childcare, and Miss Raquel spent time with us last year when she was studying. Miss Lauren joins us as our Visual Art teacher from Footscray West, and is also a familiar face as she is already a member of our parent community. Miss Baylee has joined us from New Zealand, and has already settled in to life here in Oz. Miss Myers joins us from working at Gilgai Plains Primary School as well as La Trobe University, and will be leading Literacy Improvement work in our community. Miss Brigid worked with us previously in 2021 as a tutor, and comes to us from Rupanyup Primary School where she has spent the last three years.

We've got an enormous term of learning, events and activities coming up. I will be shortly announcing the process for our school council elections; if you are keen to find out more, please chat to me or one of our school councillors to see if you'd like to become more involved.

In the coming weeks we have our Prep Picnic, School council and our Parent Teacher Interviews. Later in the term we have our big Harmony Week Celebration, and our Year 3 and 5 students will be focusing in on their NAPLAN Assessments. Next week you will receive the learning plan for the term along with your child's timetable via compass. We can't wait to leap into a Universe of Possibilities with you all this year!

Best wishes,

David and the Entire Sunny Heights Team!
