Year One - Spotlight on Learning

Dear Families,
Week 2 has been successful with students settling into routines, like roll order lines and following instructions. Students have made great efforts in bringing hats to school which has been wonderful especially due to the heat wave we have been experiencing.
This week we learnt about
Religious Education focus: Students are finding out how they can show kindness to others. We read the Parable of the Good Shepherd which discussed how everyone is important and needs care.
English focus: Students learnt to enhance their writing by focusing on the ‘who’ and ‘what’ sentence writing prompts. Revision of sounds previously taught, specifically ‘sh’. Students added more information to boring sentences making them more complex.
Mathematics focus: Students counted various collections and tried to find find the most efficient strategy to count large groups.
SEL: Students examined different emotions by watching to see if they can recognise happiness, anger, sadness and surprise in others.
Inquiry: Students are learning about the past and present. They are examining pictures from long ago, in recent history and today.
AUSLAN Focus: Students are revisiting simple signs and using them daily at school.
Next week we are learning about...
Religious Education Focus: More about the history of the Bible.
English Focus: Learning the sound "ch" and reading the book called Respect by Aunty Fay Muir and Sue Lawson
Mathematics Focus: We are counting bigger collections and comparing which numbers are bigger or smaller.
Inquiry: We are learning about family and how they can differ.
Auslan Focus: We are learning about greetings.
