Welcome to the STSS Specialist Team!
The new school year is in full swing, and the STSS Specialist Team is thrilled to be back in action! Over the past two weeks, we’ve been busy getting to know our students and introducing the exciting programs we have planned for the year ahead.
At St Thomas the Apostle, our specialist subjects give students the opportunity to explore their creativity, build 21st Century Skills, and develop lifelong healthy habits. Our team is made up of passionate educators who are dedicated to making learning engaging and meaningful.
Here’s a little bit about what each specialist area offers:
🔬💻🌱👐 STSS (Science, Technology, Sustainability & Stewardship): This dynamic subject encourages students to think critically about the world around them. We’ll be investigating scientific concepts, exploring sustainable practices, and discovering how we can be responsible stewards of our environment.
This year in STSS, we’re exploring Biological Sciences in Semester 1 and Chemical Sciences in Semester 2, with additional focus on Digital & Design Technology. Through scientific inquiry, students will ask questions, experiment, and problem-solve, while also considering how science shapes our world. Sustainability and Stewardship will guide our learning, encouraging students to think about their impact on the planet. We can’t wait to see their curiosity and creativity shine!
A big part of our approach across all specialist areas is fostering Upstanding Positive Behaviour, encouraging safety, respect and learning in everything we do. We’ve been discussing what it means to be an "Upstander" in our school community and how we can support each other in our learning journeys.
