Year Five - Spotlight on Learning

Dear Families,

What a wonderful start to the school year! Students have settled in smoothly, reconnecting with their friends and teachers while embracing classroom routines and expectations. They have reoriented themselves to their learning spaces and are already demonstrating a positive attitude towards the year ahead. We look forward to a successful year of growth and achievement!

This week, students revisited AUSLAN greetings, including hello, goodbye, please, thank you, and you're welcome. Ask your child if they can show you these signs!

In Mathematics, students explored multiples, while in Religious Education, they learnt about The Importance of Bethany

They also started reading the novel War Horse written by Michael Morpurgo.

Next week we are learning about...

Religious Education Focus: Students will continue exploring John 11: The Raising of Lazarus and its connection to Catholic Social Teachings.

English Focus:  Students will continue reading "War Horse" and engage in grammar, vocabulary, and comprehension activities linked to the text. They will also begin exploring narrative writing, learning how stories are structured and how they can use this form to express their ideas creatively.

Mathematics Focus: Students will be deepening their understanding of number concepts by exploring the Lowest Common Multiple (LCM) and the Highest Common Factor (HCF).

Auslan Focus: Students will be exploring greetings and facial expressions in AUSLAN, learning how to sign phrases such as good morning, good afternoon, how are you?, and more. They will also focus on how facial expressions enhance meaning in sign language communication.
