Year 6 Aquatic Camp

My Experience

At aquatics camp, we did four fun activities. We were all split into different groups and we had one instructor that would help us out with the activities. We did kayaking, small boat handling, catamaran sailing, and knee boarding. When it was my group's turn to sail the catamarans, I thought I wouldn’t enjoy it as much as all the other activities, but it was my favorite activity in the end. I was the skipper and I got to steer while Kiara was my crew and was handling the ropes. The last activity of the day was knee boarding. I was really nervous at first, but once you were out on the water it felt very thrilling. - Maud Thomas

We did a lot of fun things like kayaking, small boat handling catamarans and knee boarding. My favourites had to be catamarans and knee boarding. In knee boarding you have to hold a handle connected to a boat and you got pulled behind. In catamarans you have to put a helmet on because the main boom can hit you in the head. I think even if you don’t want to do something you should still try it. - Xavier Wiskin

Splash the water went as we glided across the water holding tight to the rope. Knee boarding was my favourite because you went so fast. Catamarans was also fun but quite hard because you had to steer in the opposite direction to turn the way you wanted to go. It was fun when you caught the wind and went a little bit faster. In the end it was so fun I didn’t want to go back to school. – Sophie Ryan

When I first arrived at camp, I thought wow this place is amazing!

Knee boarding was one of my favorites you got pulled along by a fast boat on a board.

The catamaran was also very fun because we got to ride a boat run by the wind.

When kayaking we learnt to raft up if we needed rest and also learned to do a sweep stroke.

Finally, we learned to drive a boat and got to do a figure 8 and a doughnut. – Jameson Stewart

Splash went our oars through the water as we paddled our kayaks together to make a kayak raft on the Murray River. I got splashed a bit though. When we did small boat handling, I did not drive very fast because I was nervous. Catamaraning was very peaceful and we went quite fast as it was quite windy. Knee boarding was by far the best. We did singles and doubles and I did not fall off at all. I was nervous but it was so exciting! We spent one night at Murraylands Aquatic Centre in our swags and everyone got up quite early. – Adelaide Williams

At aquatics camp and we did LOTS of fun water activities, such as kayaking, knee boarding, and small boat handling. But the best of them all was catamaraning we went so fast we reached 15 to 20 knots (30 to 40 kph) I was in a boat with Arlo and it was really fun. - Louie Griffiths

At aquatics camp we did lots of fun water activities. The birds were really loud and it was really hard to get to sleep. We did catamarans, small boat driving, canoeing and knee boarding. Knee boarding was my favourite because we went really fast and it was hard to hold on. We also saw a massive tiger snake on the bank that we were meant to be knee boarding on. -  Innes Staniford

Aquatics camp was really fun.  I drove a boat, went knee boarding and did lots of other amazing things. I learned lots of new things like did you know you have to be 12 to get a boat license! We went kayaking and at first I was really nervous but I started to understand how to do it. At the end I was really tired but I had a great time. -  Jessica Howells

On the aquatics camp, there were lots of exciting water activities.  Catamaraning and knee boarding were my favourite, and even though it was a little scary at first, I found it enjoyable by the end.  I did notice there was a lot of birds which I was able to identify – whistling kites, short billed corellas and lots of pelicans. I was very tired by the time I got home! – Mac Bourne

We arrived at 3.30 sharp, we got out of the car and we put up our tents. We had no lessons on the first day. We had free time for the rest of the day. Day two we did small boat handling, knee boarding, kayaking, and had a go on the catamarans. After everything we did, we had to pack up. Then we had a last snack and then we got back in the car and we drove back.  - Callum Wilksch

This was one of the best things that I have done and it was lots fun. There were so many things that you could do like kayaking, small boat handling, catamaraning but my personal favourite was definitely knee boarding. We also slept in a circle in swags that we brought from home. In catamaraning there is a big main sail there is also the gib sail that makes you go faster. In knee boarding there are two helpers to hold the front up. It was so fun! –Harrison White

At Aquatics Camp we got to do four different activities in the water. First, my group went kayaking and we went up and down the river.  Next, we got to do handle small motor boats and do donuts and figure 8s. After a lunch break, we then got to go knee boarding. We were able to do one single ride and one double each. For the final activity, we split into two groups of 3 and got to sail catamarans. It took a bit of concentration, but we got it eventually. Overall, it was very tiring, but also very exciting. – Eloise Sachse

Knee boarding, in my opinion, was my favorite activity of all four activities. Knee boarding is an activity that you hold onto a handle and put your knees on the board that is designed to keep your knees in. The boat pulls you and you go with the boat and if you lean you will go that way. It feels like you’re surfing on your knees and it’s amazing.  - Ellie Koay

On the first day, at 3.30 on the dot, we set up our tents and played a lot of cricket. In our free time on the second day, we did knee-boarding, kayaking, catamarans, and small boat handling. It was so much fun. The most fun was knee-boarding. It was so good when the water flew up into your face. - Harry Rogers

We all really enjoyed the aquatics camp and doing lots of fun activities. Knee boarding was nearly everybody’s favourite. But I really enjoyed catamaraning. I also loved playing backyard cricket as a class, and we saw a really big tiger snake on our way to do knee boarding. The other activities we did were kayaking and small boat handling which was very hard. - Arlo Moore

In my opinion knee boarding was definitely the best. But catamaraning was also really good. When we went knee boarding two people had to help the person start going. When you started moving it felt so awesome because you were wobbly when you started. Then you started doing jumps on the wake. It was definitely the best. – Ashton Geytenbeek
