Country Cup Rugby League Gala Day
On 28 May, our Under 14 and Under 16 Rugby League teams represented O'Connor Catholic College in the Country Cup with determination, resilience and excellent sportsmanship.
The Under 14s put in a courageous performance despite having only 12 players, narrowly going down by two tries after a hard-fought match. Joe, Sam, Harry and Jimmy were among the team's standout performers.
The Under 16s played an exciting match, drawing 20–20 at full time before securing a thrilling 26–20 victory in extra time. Reggie starred with four tries, while Charlie, Jack, Archie and Juno all made valuable contributions.
Congratulations to the Under 16 team on qualifying for the Country Cup North West Finals Day in Tamworth next month, and well done to all players for representing the College with pride.
NSW 2026 Opens School Basketball Tournament
On 2 June, our Senior Basketball teams travelled to Tamworth to compete in the NSW 2026 Opens School Basketball Tournament. O'Connor Catholic College was proudly represented by two teams, O'Connor 1 and O'Connor 2.
O'Connor 1 had an outstanding day, winning all of their pool matches to secure a place in the final. The team competed strongly throughout the tournament and finished as runners-up after a hard-fought match against St Joseph's CC Aberdeen, going down 42–27.
O'Connor 2 demonstrated great determination and sportsmanship throughout the day. While they were unable to secure a win, the team continued to compete positively and gave their best effort in each match.
Congratulations to all students involved for the way they represented O'Connor Catholic College both on and off the court.
Dio Rugby League Gala Day
On 3 June, our Year 7/8 and Year 9/10 girls travelled to Inverell to compete in League Tag, while our Under 14 boys represented the school in Rugby League.
All teams displayed excellent sportsmanship, teamwork and determination throughout the day, proudly representing O'Connor Catholic College. The students competed strongly against quality opposition and should be commended for their efforts and conduct both on and off the field.
A special congratulations goes to our Under 14 boys, who had an outstanding tournament and narrowly missed claiming the championship title and progressing to the CCC competition. Their commitment, resilience and teamwork throughout the day were a credit to themselves and the school.
Well done to all students involved for the way they represented O'Connor and for giving their very best in every match.
NSW Rugby Union 7s Tournament
After an excellent day of Rugby 7's on 24 June, the Under 16 Boys have progressed to the State Finals on 3 September, after defeating TAS in the final.
After a disappointing semi where they only just defeated the Yr 9 boys, who came 2nd in their Under 16 pool, they kept their best game to last, eventually beating TAS convincedly. The writing was on the wall for TAS after Reggie scored an excellent individual try off the kick off.
The girls had a great day where rugby was the winner.
In the 14's boys division both our teams, the Yr 7 & 8's came runners up in their pools & did not make the final playoff. A big call out to the mighty 7's who started the day winning 2 of their games playing teams a year older.
2026 NSWTA All Schools Championships
On 30 June, O'Connor Catholic College proudly participated in the 2026 NSWTA All Schools Championships, with six teams representing our school across Years 7–10.
Each team played four games throughout the day, demonstrating determination, resilience and excellent sportsmanship. It was wonderful to see our students encouraging one another, displaying positive attitudes and representing our school with pride both on and off the field.
Our standout performers of the day were the Year 7/8 Girls who recorded two wins narrowly missing out on a place in the semi-finals.
Our 1st Year 9/10 Boys team had a great day with one win and a draw.
The Year 7/8 Boys played amazingly and showed great teamwork throughout the day, finishing the day on a high, defeating Peel 6–2.
Well done to all players!
