Year 8 Lego Engineers Power Ahead
Our Year 8 Engineering Technology students have had a fantastic term exploring sustainable energy and putting their skills to the test. After kicking off the term with creative building challenges like the straw water tower, students were tasked with designing and building a wind-powered winch out of Lego.
A key focus of the project was understanding gears and gear ratios. Students learned how to manipulate torque and speed, configuring their Lego gears to maximise the lifting power generated by the wind.
The project was a brilliant showcase of teamwork, trial and error, and resilience as students embraced failure as a stepping stone to modifying and strengthening their Lego mechanisms. We had some incredible results, including one spectacular design that managed to utilise gear reduction to lift an impressive 4kg!
Congratulations to all students on a term of fantastic effort, grit, and innovation.
Textiles
Year 7 Aprons Complete!
Our Year 7 Textiles students have wrapped up their design project, and all the hard work has paid off! Over the term, the students have gone from zero sewing experience to confidently threading machines, cutting out patterns, and stitching up their very own custom aprons.
Seeing them master tricky tasks like straight seams and neat pockets has been a real highlight. Best of all, they now get to wear their own creations!
Congratulations year 7 on a fantastic effort, your aprons look brilliant!
